We had a great day volunteering to help the Golden Girl Group Home prepare their new Family Reunification Safe House for opening. In addition, the AEP Foundation recognized the great work of the Golden Girl Group Home by providing the resources which will help furnish the tools and support necessary to help the young residents safely transition to their adoptive families.

Brad Hall, vice president of External Affairs, joined the panel to share our economic development success in the aerospace industry. Hall identified the steps we took to bring high salary jobs in the aerospace industry to the area, including certifying #Aeroready regions, establishing business ready sites and partnering with key stakeholders to establish educational opportunities. We are proud to contribute to growing the economy and bringing new job opportunities to our region.

It takes a village to keep electricity flowing to the communities we serve. For more than 50 years, employees at our Central Machine Shop have been committed to providing and repairing the equipment and materials it takes to keep your lights on. 🛠️💡 While the Shop is located in South Charleston, WV, it supports communities throughout our company's entire footprint. These employees may be behind the scenes when it comes to producing power, but their work is front and center each and every day. ✅👏

Our Bancroft-Milton Transmission Line Rebuild Project plans to increase electric reliability by making upgrades in Cabell and Putnam counties in WV. No route has been determined. We plan to work with the community. Commitment is 🔑 when it comes to being a lineworker. Eight of our employees recently learned several new on-the-job skills during C-100 line school training in Marmet, WV. Training focused on bucket and pole-top rescues, tree trimming techniques, troubleshooting underground lines, the ins-and-outs of transformers, and more. We're excited to see how these lineworkers continue to safely develop their skills and expertise. 💡

Come rain or shine, we're always working for the communities we serve. Line Crew Supervisor Allen A. and his crew recently battled bad weather to restore service to a neighborhood in Grundy, VA. One of our customers captured this shot of them on the job, saying, "Hats off to these guys." We agree - thank you, Allen and crew, for all you do! 👷♂️💡

We're honored to receive the prestigious Emergency Response Award from Edison Electric Institute (EEI). The award comes in recognition of our storm response efforts after a weather event of historic proportions struck parts of West Virginia on April 2 of this year. In all, nearly 150,000 – or more than 30 percent of our West Virginia customers – lost electric service, including four major medical centers and dozens of nursing and assisted living facilities. Incredibly, crews restored service to 100,000 customers in 48 hours. Nearly 470 broken poles, 716 crossarms, 234 transformers, and 276,000 feet of wire were replaced. After assessing the damage, the National Weather Service (NWS) called this a “historic severe weather outbreak” with ten confirmed tornados in West Virginia. “Appalachian Power’s commitment to restoring power in a safe, efficient manner to the communities it serves following the April 2 tornados is admirable. Appalachian Power and its storm response team are extremely deserving of this well-earned recovery award,” said EEI President and COO Dan Brouillette.
