Heathcare for All. Advocacy for the Underserved.

About us

Asian Health Services, founded in 1974, provides health, social, and advocacy services for all regardless of income, insurance status, immigration status, language, or culture. Our approach to well-being focuses on "whole patient health", which is why besides primary care we also provide mental health, case management, nutrition, and dental care to more than 27,000 patients in English and over 12 Asian languages: Cantonese, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Mien, Lao, Mongolian, Karen, Karenni, and Burmese. We offer medical, dental, and mental health services for all ages. We also recognize that a patient's health is directly linked to their social and economic circumstances. That's why we are dedicated advocates, and we fight for legislation that make our communities a safer and healthier place to live.

🙌 Thank you to National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and Abbott for selecting Asian Health Services as one of 8 participants in the 2024 Health Center Innovation Incubator! AHS provider and project lead Christina Ng, MD shares, "Food is nourishment for both the body and soul, and cultural food beliefs drive our community’s decisions regarding what foods to buy and consume, so we need to work within these boundaries to ultimately impact their nutritional health and outcomes. Our plan is to create a curriculum that will provide a hands-on experience to educate and empower our patients to make 'healthful swaps,' teaching them ways to boost flavor without harmful additives, and how to modify common cultural dishes to be more wholesome yet retain the familiar flavors of their homelands. In this way, we will begin to shift the collective mindset to one where healthy food can taste good as well!"

Today, we’re kicking off our second Innovation Incubator together with Abbott. Congratulations to the 8 Community Health Centers selected to participate in this year's incubator: ⭐Affinia Healthcare, St. Louis ⭐Asian Health Services, Oakland, Calif. ⭐Cabin Creek Health Systems, Charleston, W.Va. ⭐ Delaware Valley Community Health, Philadelphia ⭐White House Clinics, Richmond, Ky. ⭐Mainline Health Systems, Inc., Monticello, Ark. ⭐Tri-Area Community Health, Laurel Fork, Va. ⭐URBAN HEALTH PLAN, INC., New York From the Bronx to the Bay Area, they're working to create sustainable, effective strategies to expand access to healthy foods and improve health. All 8 centers are receiving funding, expert guidance, and training to design and test their creative, community solutions, but stay tuned for the journey – in a few months, 2 centers will be awarded additional support to scale their programs even further! https://lnkd.in/eUyc-i3j #FoodIsMedicine

🙌 Great news! On Tuesday, June 11th SB1078 the Language Access bill was successfully approved by the Assembly Health Committee chaired by Assemblymember Mia Bonta. This is a significant step forward for SB 1078 to establish an Office of Language Access. Asian Health Services, Senator Dave Min, and over 50 partners, community members, and organizations from the AHS led AA & NHPI Health Equity Coalition, expressed overwhelming support in four different languages for the bill. The Assembly Health Committee voted 15-0 in favor. Together, we're making meaningful strides towards health equity! #LanguageAccess #SB1078 #HealthEquity

On Wednesday, June 5, Asian Health Services President Thu Quach, Peter Gee from Little Tokyo Service Center, and Natalie Ah Soon from Rams, alongside CA AA&NHPI Health Equity Coalition Mental Health Taskforces gathered in Sacramento for a hearing hosted by the State Assembly Select Committee and spoke on Mental Health Accessibility within Non-English Speaking Communities. The informational hearing was an opportunity for subject experts, community leaders, and constituents to uplift the challenges facing the AA&NHPI communities and offer data/research-backed, and community-informed recommendations. As a co-founder of the CA AA&NHPI Health Equity Coalition, AHS is proud of our advocacy efforts in securing this hearing with the Select Committee. Along with our community partners, we were able to mobilize 45+ attendees who all gave moving testimony and support following the hearing. Advancing Mental Health care access and quality for our patients and communities is a critical priority for AHS and we look forward to continuing in this effort. A very special thank you to Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen who chaired the committee! .

We are honored that NBC Bay Area anchor Mike Inouye spotlighted Asian Health Services’ 50th anniversary during AANHPI Heritage Month! CEO Julia Liou shared about AHS’ 50 years of dedication to providing care for underserved communities. The segment also spotlighted patient Beilei Dong about her experience as well as her son James Zhang, who is now an AHS board member after witnessing our care firsthand. It's stories like theirs that remind us of our mission to foster health, healing, and community. https://lnkd.in/gZvDAp9q
