In Johannesburg, we visited Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator - a beacon of hope in tackling youth unemployment in South Africa. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, Harambee is unlocking jobs and breaking down barriers for over 3.9 million young South Africans.   Harambee is also an anchor partner in a breakthrough platform called SA Youth, which is revolutionizing access to jobs and skills for young people across the nation. This platform is more than just a network; it’s a lifeline for the next generation, empowering them to find meaningful opportunities and contribute to a growing economy.   The collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society is essential to making this vision a reality. Last week, I had the privilege of visiting the Komati Power Plant in Mpumalanga, South Africa, alongside Sir Andrew Steer, President and CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund. Witnessing the incredible progress being made in the region’s energy transition was inspiring.   The transformation underway at Komati is remarkable. From the Renewable Energy Training Center, where over 250 individuals have been trained, to the hands-on training in solar, battery storage, and welding—these initiatives are not just about energy but about creating sustainable futures. Our target to certify over 400 individuals by November 2024 underscores our commitment to a just transition for the community and workforce.   A special highlight was hearing directly from the trainees. Their optimism and determination were palpable, reminding us of the profound impact that these programs have on real lives. The skills they are acquiring are not only preparing them for the future but are also reintegrating them into their communities, fostering both hope and opportunity now and for the future.   We are excited to continue working hand in hand with stakeholders in South Africa through The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) for meaningful and impactful change.   #RenewableEnergy #JustTransition #GreenJobs #BezosEarthFund #SouthAfrica
