Judy Belk is a visionary leader who left an indelible mark on our communities and philanthropy during her tenure as President and CEO of the @CaliforniaWellnessFoundation. Our CCF President and CEO, Miguel A. Santana, reflected on her recent piece in @InsidePhilanthropy, where she shared wise reflections and some advice for the new class of philanthropic leaders. “Judy always makes it a point to fight for what is right and to say what needs to be said - not what is easy. She is not afraid to challenge the status quo and drive bold change for justice, regardless of the obstacles. As a mentor and friend, I appreciate her advice, particularly on reimagining foundation advocacy. "The stakes are high in the outcome of the November election for philanthropy fulfilling its mission and essential role of civil society." At CCF, we have taken this call seriously, leading on Measure A, a citizen-driven, countywide ballot measure that will reform the delivery of homeless services and make housing more affordable. @LA4LA, the groundbreaking public-private partnership launched by Mayor Karen Bass and powered by the California Community Foundation (CCF) with support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, continues to be recognized for its approach to tackling homelessness. This article in Inside Philanthropy highlights how LA4LA secured $2.9 million in funding from generous philanthropic partners, including Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg, Stephen J Cloobeck, CCF, and Hilton, to save an affordable housing project in Koreatown. With this support, @treehouse.community converted all 58 units into affordable, permanent supportive housing for Angelenos who need it most, and @PATHpartners was brought in to provide essential support services for the new residents. This serves as a model for what the partnership aims to do as it fast-tracks solutions to unlock housing and scale development across the region.
