We look to living system patterns and frameworks to design, manage, and monitor our organizations, communities, and workplaces. So, what if we apply that approach to inform the principles guiding the design of our larger societal systems, such as the economy? In today’s #WithLifeWednesday, we invite you to question the core principles upon which our economy is designed. In a quick Google search, asking, "What principles does the economy reflect?" Google's AI responds, "The economy is based on many principles, including scarcity, supply and demand, and incentives.” What other principles do you see reflected in our exponential economic growth models?  Now, let’s look at it through the lens of the 3 categories of patterns we recognize in living systems: holism, organization, and relationships. How might those principles you see in our current economic models be misaligned or aligned with living systems? In Capital Institute’s Introduction to Regenerative Economics course, we’ll reimagine and redesign our economy in alignment with living systems and guided by Capital Institute’s 8 Living Systems Principles for Regenerative Vitality. If you’re curious to learn more, enrollment is now open for our September cohort! → 🌎 Learn more & enroll https://lnkd.in/g3quiivw

This week we’re pleased to interview John Fullerton. Once a Wall Street Wunderkind with JPMorgan, Fullerton has since formed the Capital Institute to develop the principles and practices of “Regenerative Economics and Finance.” It’s not enough to invest locally, Fullerton argues. Instead, we must look at the purpose of each and every dollar we invest. Are we serving the planet or destroying it? Are we building just social relationships or tearing them apart? Are we truly serving our places and communities? Check out this week's MSJ Extra!

Spencer Beebe, a Founder and Managing Partner of Salmon Nation Trust, has been recognized as an unconventional champion of the environment for nearly a half a century, typically operating at the "edge of chaos". He was the founding President of Conservation International in 1987 and then shifted his focus to bioregional regeneration with the founding of Ecotrust in 1991, long before that term was even a "thing".   On Thursday, July 25th at 12pm EDT, John Fullerton welcomes Spencer for what promises to be a rich dialogue with a true elder statesman of the Environmental movement, and a tireless champion of action-driven work on the ground. Few demonstrate the principles of regenerative economics as lived experience more practically than Spencer Beebe, a longtime friend and teacher of the Capital Institute. Every month John hosts a Discovery Dialogue on a current and vital topic with relevance to economics and finance, and this is one you won't want to miss! 📅 Date: Thursday, July 25 🕒 Time: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EDT 📍 Location: Virtual (Zoom link provided upon registration) RSVP 👉 https://lnkd.in/eEAbAupV #discoverydialogue #regenerativeeconomics #bioregionalregeneration

Rita’s quote highlights language's profound but often subtle influence on individuals and societies. Language is a powerful symbol that reflects our foundational beliefs. With this understanding, it is rather revealing to examine a dominant metaphor of Western European Culture for the past 300 years: The machine. In organizations, the machine metaphor emphasizes the value of productivity and efficiency over shared purpose, interdependent relationships, and individual creative genius. As a result, people are seen as cogs in the machine, easily replaced if they do not function efficiently. Therefore, it is no surprise that employee engagement is so low globally. This mechanistic worldview shows itself in the workplace in the following language: ⚙️ Let’s develop a blueprint for our company policy. ⚙️ This department needs to run like a well-oiled machine. ⚙️ I’m running out of steam. ⚙️ We need to crank up our sales. Can you think of other examples? For today’s With Life Wednesday, we invite you to start to pay attention to the language you use. You may be surprised by what words slip out. Imagine if we changed our language to be life-centered instead of machine-centered and we learned a new vocabulary that includes words like resilience, adaptation, health, emergence, regeneration, and interdependence. Imagine what kind of energy and potential we would create in our organizations. We need to ditch the machine metaphor. Living systems, like the human body or a forest ecosystem, do not operate like machines. They align with a unique set of patterns we recognize in all life forms. With Life is an approach to organizing that holds these patterns of living systems at its foundation. Whether organizing in business, policy, government, or communities, the With Life Approach empowers us to create healthy, resilient organizations. To learn more, join the community and watch this free 30-minute mini-course, in which Jeff Su introduces the With Life Approach and the Living Systems Framework for Organizations. → 🎬 https://lnkd.in/gHD8kPCb #withlifewednesdays

Health is at the center of every living thing, and is the foundation upon which we all thrive. A healthy ecosystem ensures that all life works harmoniously, contributing to the overall resilience of that living system. The With Life Approach looks to life as a model because people are living systems, and therefore, organizations, teams or communities made up of people are also living systems. For today’s With Life Wednesday, we invite you to pay attention to who you interact with in your own ecosystems, especially when solving a problem or making a decision.→ read more: https://lnkd.in/gFkxr5VU Not a member of the community yet? → join here: https://lnkd.in/g6z9XS2U About #WithLifeWednesdays: As the stewards of the With Life Community, at nRhythm and Capital Institute we are often asked to share what we know about living systems thinking, patterns, and principles, as well as our approach to creating healthier and more resilient organizations. While sharing knowledge is important, as organizers, we recognize that creating a space to connect, discuss and support each other in bringing this knowledge to life is where thought becomes action. Every Wednesday we share an insight with our community that encourages us to pause and explore a new way to re-align hashtag #withlife each week. Each month we offer a new theme, and a collective rhythm, that invites each of us to explore and apply the With Life Approach in our own unique contexts. Our hope is that each week’s prompt seeds a continuity of discussion and supports fresh perspectives in our community that helps us learn and grow together.

A global #regenerativeeconomy will be built on a foundation of bioregional place-based and place-sourced initiatives. However, there is no infrastructure within current financial markets to catalyze this essential regenerative development to heal degraded ecosystem function. On Thursday, June 27th at 12pm EDT (New York) John Fullerton welcomes Samantha Power; Regenerative Economist, Futurist, and Bioregionalist, for a discussion on Bioregional Financing Facilities, the missing link to catalyze capital flows toward landscape scale regeneration. Every month John hosts a Discovery Dialogue on a current and vital topic with relevance to economics and finance, and this is one you won't want to miss! 📅 Date: Thursday, June 27 🕒 Time: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm ET 📍 Location: Virtual (Zoom link provided upon registration) RSVP 👉 https://lnkd.in/eEAbAupV
