Please keep in mind that not everybody enjoys fireworks and in particular pets, veterans, seniors and young children may be sensitive to loud noises. More dogs go missing on July 4 than any other day of the year. Be a good neighbor and refrain from using illegal fireworks! This 4th of July season, please take a moment to read and understand the following safety practices and proper disposal of used fireworks to ensure a safe holiday: 💥 According to the Costa Mesa Municipal Code, safe and sane fireworks can only be used on July 2, 3, and 4 from the hours of 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. 💥 Only use safe and sane fireworks sold at your locally approved fireworks stand booth. All legal fireworks will have the seal of approval from the California State Fire Marshal. 💥 If a firework can leave the ground or explode in the air, then It is unsafe and illegal in Costa Mesa. 💥 Selling illegal fireworks is a felony, and possession/use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,000 fine and/or jail time. 💥 Always keep children close and within an arm’s reach of an adult when around fireworks. 💥 Only adults should light off fireworks, never children. 💥 Light fireworks away from flammable areas and wildlife. 💥 Keep a water hose or water supply nearby. 💥 Fireworks are not recyclable and should be placed in your waste container. 💥 Both used and unused fireworks should be soaked in water overnight. Once soaked, fireworks can be placed in a resealable bag and disposed of in the trash bin.
