On September 17, City staff will be asking the Fremont City Council to consider a new ordinance for Fremont that would create a Building Appeals Board to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions, and determinations made by the City's Building Official and Fire Marshal related to building and fire codes. The proposed ordinance would allow for a three-member Building Appeals Board appointed by the City Council. Members would not have to be Fremont residents. They would be required to have special knowledge of state and local building and fire codes. A fee of $2,101 would be associated with any appeal to the board. The City Council is scheduled to consider the proposed ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 3300 Capitol Avenue. The meeting will also be held virtually via Zoom. For more information, read the staff report: https://lnkd.in/gPavpZqt For instructions on how to participate in the meeting and provide public comment, view the meeting agenda: https://lnkd.in/gQDJWkq7

At the September 10 City Council meeting, the Fremont City Council appointed Kathy Kimberlin as Fremont’s new councilmember to fill the vacancy in Council District 3 created by the resignation of Jenny Kassan. Ms. Kimberlin was officially sworn in to office by the City Clerk during the Council meeting. She will serve as councilmember for approximately two years until the results of the November 2026 General Municipal Election are certified. On September 3, 2024, after reviewing several options to fill the seat, the City Council determined that it would interview the candidate that received the second highest number of votes in District 3 during the 2022 General Municipal Election. The candidate that received the second highest votes was Kathy Kimberlin. Ms. Kimberlin was invited to interview during the September 10, 2024, City Council meeting. After the interview concluded, Council voted to appoint Ms. Kimberlin to the vacant District 3 Council seat. Ms. Kimberlin has served the Fremont community in a volunteer capacity for many years. She currently holds leadership roles with the Tri-City Nonprofit Coalition, Rotary Club of Fremont, Citizens for Better Community, Fremont 4th of July Parade Committee, and the Fremont Education Foundation.

During election season, political campaign signs are a common sight across the Bay Area. In Fremont, campaign signs are prohibited on public property; however, they are allowed on private property subject to conditions and limitations. For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/gzBwNTqh. In addition, please note that for the upcoming election on November 5, signs are not allowed to be displayed until September 21 and must be taken down by November 19. The City will proactively remove illegal campaign signs or open a code enforcement case as they are discovered (depending on the location). Anyone can report illegal campaign signs by visiting https://lnkd.in/gPG_d-EN or by emailing [email protected]. Displaying campaign signs is one way to support your candidate of choice, but please remember to comply with City requirements. Thanks for your cooperation!
