Something special is growing in South Toms River! On September 12, Community Medical Center, RWJBarnabas Health, and the Sadie Vickers Resource Center hosted the grand opening of the Sadie Vickers CommUnity Garden, located in South Toms River. The organizations collaborated to improve access to fresh, healthy produce and nutrition education through the establishment of a community garden. The event was attended by representatives from Community Medical Center, RWJBarnabas Health, Sadie Vickers Resource Center, and local and state leaders and organizations, including (pictured from left to right) from left to right: Thomas Hayes, Director of New Jersey Natural Gas; Stacey Romano, Branch Manager, @M &T Bank; Johanna Grant, Community Member; Derrick Grant, Community Member; Asm. Earlier this year, Community Medical Center and RWJBarnabas Health team members spent time building and planting 100 earthboxes, which can produce thousands of pounds of produce annually. RWJBarnabas Health previously built The Beth Greenhouse and Farmer's Market at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The garden offers access to healthy foods and nutrition and wellness education throughout the year in areas that lack supermarkets or easily available produce and other nutritious foods. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate! #LetsBeHealthyTogether
