Staff from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset recently participated in a “Plantscaping Party” to help welcome two families to the hospital’s Healing Homes transitional housing later this month. Staff from throughout the hospital volunteered their time to help with landscaping around the two hospital-owned homes in Somerville. Launched in 2019, the Healing Homes initiative offers transitional housing for Somerset County individuals or families who have an illness that caused financial hardship and are unable to afford housing. A case manager will refer participants to resources that help with their individual health issues as well as community resources that support basic needs such as employment, transportation, social services and permanent housing. #LetsBeHealthyTogether #healthequity

We join Rutgers Cancer Institute in celebrating a major milestone - reaching 200 CAR T-cell treatments! At Rutgers Cancer Institute, together with RWJBarnabas Health, experts are among the nation’s most experienced in treating blood cancers with immunotherapy. 76-year-old patient Michael Hreha was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2019. When his disease became resistant to chemotherapy, he discussed the available options with his doctor, Dr Andrew M. Evens, who is deputy director for clinical services, Rutgers Cancer Institute; system director of medical oncology; and oncology lead for the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, and knew that CAR T-cell immunotherapy was the best option for him. Saint James Health Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, opened a new health clinic at Newark’s East Side High School as part of an ongoing effort to increase access to care and improve health outcomes in the city’s most vulnerable populations. The ribbon-cutting ceremony coincided with the celebration of National Health Center Week this week. Located at 69 Pulaski St. in Newark’s culturally rich Ironbound neighborhood, the Saint James Health Center at East Side High School has its own separate public entrance and offers patients primary care services, including pediatrics, adult medicine, vaccines, physicals, as well as access to trained social workers and assistance with insurance enrollment, in a safe and comfortable environment and with both language and cultural proficiency.
