Releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name.
About us
Compassion International is a Christian child development ministry aimed at releasing children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty in Jesus’ name. We are church-based: Compassion believes the Church is God’s chosen instrument to bring hope to a hurting world. We believe the strategic placement of local churches makes them best suited to address the holistic needs of the children in their communities. And only they can effectively deliver the Jesus-based teaching and whole-life care that children in poverty deserve. Compassion partners with 8,000+ churches in 25 countries around the world to deliver our holistic child development program. We are child-focused: Compassion’s ministry is focused on the individual child and his/her development. We offer this assistance irrespective of caste, creed, class or religion. At Compassion, we believe entire communities will feel the positive impact of our presence because what happens in the life of a child ripples throughout his or her environment. We are Christ-centered: Jesus is the core of our ministry and his life and teachings shape our programs. They reflect the spiritual commitments of our staff. And they guide how we love people, respect communities and cooperate with nations. We are committed to integrity: We hold ourselves to the highest professional and biblical principles in all aspects of our ministry and maintain the highest industry standards for our allocation of funds. Compassion and Compassion International are registered trademarks of the United States government.

In an act of kindness, Jesus laid His hands on the children and blessed them. Children are not irrelevant in His kingdom. They are valuable. Jesus is equally accessible to every individual, regardless of age, gender, nationality or social status. Eternal life is available to everyone. When Jesus said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me,” He was reaching out to a segment of society that was thought to be insignificant. Children, in their weakness and vulnerability, have much to teach us as adults. As we grow, the hardness of the world often makes our hearts callous. Children have a humble openness to the message of Jesus and the salvation He offers. We can learn from their vulnerability. Jesus presented a gentle openness to the children. He touched them with compassion and protected them from others. We are called to follow Jesus’ example. Children are not irrelevant, little beings to be discarded. They are to be valued, loved and shown compassion.

Compassion International reposted this
Want to hear an amazing story? As many of you know, last week marked the conclusion of my nearly 11-year journey at Common Sense Media, where I led the business development team. It was a privilege to represent their mission globally, forge transformative partnerships, and drive impactful revenue growth. I'm deeply grateful for the memories and collaborations shared with so many of you during my time there. I'm now excited to share that I’m starting a new chapter with Compassion International as Senior Manager of Corporate & Foundation Partnerships. For those who aren’t familiar with Compassion: they are a 72-year-old child advocacy organization working to release children from poverty in Jesus' name. With 3,500 employees worldwide, Compassion directly impacts 2.4 million children through education, healthcare, and holistic support. They are incredible. I’ve known the organization for many years but never imagined I’d work there. Since 2018, I’ve had the privilege of sponsoring two children based in Tanzania. We exchange letters, and I receive pictures and updates of their lives, which always bring me great joy. Ok, back to the story: While I was interviewing, I discovered that Carlos Whittaker, an author and influencer I follow on Instagram, was connected with Compassion and has been a sponsor himself for 15 years! He was on a Compassion-sponsored trip to Tanzania, and I followed his journey through Instagram live stories. I watched with tears streaming down my face as he met his sponsored child, visited schools, churches, and homes. Despite the language barrier, the connections were genuine, and the laughter was organic. You can see for yourself: https://lnkd.in/e3R-wrY6 Carlos's followers were so moved that over 400 people signed up to become sponsors during his trip. I watched his stories for two days. On the third day, I couldn’t wait to see his latest adventures. To my delight, he visited the local Compassion office. Here was Carlos Whittaker, from Nashville, touring a Compassion office in Tanzania. The tour guide showed the printer where thousands of letters from sponsors were printed, translated to Swahili, and then distributed. In that moment, the man held up a letter from a Compassion sponsor. It was an 8.5 by 11 letter with a big color printout of a photo. It was my letter. My jaw hit the floor. The photo was me with my husband and family at my niece’s 8th-grade graduation. That afternoon, I received my official offer from Compassion International. I’m delighted to join this incredible team and am already blown away by the talent, sincerity, kindness, insight, passion, and dedication of my new colleagues. If you’re interested to chat child sponsorship as an individual or business, do hit me up. Either way, let's stay connected.
