The third Medal of Valor recipient at this year’s DOC Employee Awards Ceremony was Parole Agent Wendy Myers, who demonstrated exceptional courage when an armed parole absconder was holding a two-year-old child hostage. Despite sustaining an ankle injury while responding to the scene, Agent Myers remained resolute in her efforts to negotiate with the absconder and ensure the safety of the child. Throughout the six-hour standoff, she communicated with the absconder, working to calm the situation. At the request of law enforcement, Agent Myers donned metal plates and a helmet to personally facilitate a surrender; however, a struggle for the absconder’s firearm ensued, and he was shot by police. The two-year-old was unharmed, and the absconder recovered from his injuries. #PADOCProud #PAProud
