DVTA is a regional, not-for-profit (Section 501(c)(6)) association of professional translators, interpreters, linguists, educators, and other individuals interested in these fields. It is a chapter of the national American Translators Association with which it has been associated since the early 1960s. It acts as a regional talent bank for individuals, business and industry seeking assistance with translation and interpretation. DVTA is dedicated to improving communications among translators and interpreters, and those interested in these fields, as part of an ongoing program to promote the highest professional standards. It serves as a clearinghouse for information on literature and new developments concerning translation and interpretation. The association provides a forum for members to hear formal presentations and discuss current topics in the profession. 🌟 Introducing Our Distinguished Speaker: Bridget Hylak! 🌟 We are excited to welcome Bridget, a 30+ year veteran of the language industry, international speaker, consultant, author, and trainer, to the DVTA’s 2024 East Coast Interpreters and Translators Summit! 🤩 Bridget is known for her dedication to bridging the gap between various sectors in the language industry and is highly regarded for her expertise in language, language technology, and DEIA arenas. 🌐 Recently featured by TIME Magazine and NPR, and selected as an industry panelist by the Department of Homeland Security for her knowledge on AI in the language industry, Bridget continues to lead the conversation on the future of language services. As the Chief Industry Strategist for two startups named to Slator’s “30 under 30” list for 2024, she is at the forefront of innovation in our field. 🏅💡 In addition to her leadership roles, Bridget has contributed to MultiLingual Media magazine, is a past Administrator and current Assistant Administrator of the ATA Language Technology Division, and serves on the ATA’s Interpretation Professional Advisory Committee (IPAC). She’s also a founding member of I-LEAD, the International Language, Equity and Accessibility Drivers. 👥️ A Stanford University graduate with degrees in Broadcast Journalism, Spanish, and Portuguese, Bridget has also worked and studied abroad in Argentina and Moscow. 🌟 Introducing Our Distinguished Speaker: Anisa Rahim! 🌟 We are honored to welcome Anisa, a dedicated Trial Attorney in the Federal Coordination and Compliance Section with the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, to the DVTA’s 2024 East Coast Interpreters and Translators Summit! 🤩 Anisa brings her extensive experience in language access implementation, enforcement, and monitoring to her crucial work in the Federal Coordination and Compliance Section. She leads initiatives such as the Language Access and Courts Initiative, the Language Access and Law Enforcement Initiative (LELAI), and the Federal Language Access Working Group (Fed’l LAWG). ⚖️ Anisa is also a key member of the Advisory Committee for the revision of the ABA Standards for Civil Legal Aid (SCLAI) on Language Access and the Courts. Before joining the DOJ, she served as Vice-President and Supervising Attorney of the Protect anti-trafficking Initiative at Legal Services of New Jersey, where she led the Language Access Rights Project. This initiative focused on advocacy with state and federal agencies to ensure equal access for individuals with limited English proficiency and provided essential training to state court judges and attorneys. 👩🏽⚖️👨🏽⚖️ A long-time advocate for language rights, Anisa had been actively involved with the National Language Access Advocates Network (N-LAAN), a national organization committed to eradicating language discrimination and promoting language rights.
