Today marks 30 years of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. This bill had far reaching criminal justice implications that still impact our criminal legal system today. It's important to not only talk about the many lives and communities damaged over a failed policy, but to remind you how every law that passes can have devastating effects for decades to come. #policy #criminaljustice #criminaljusticereform #law

Too often equity is an add-on or a nice-to-have with regard to creating businesses and financial models—when after everything we’ve learned—equity should be the foundation. This is true of traditional finance and in many cases climate finance. Jacquelyn Omosunbo Omotalade 羚 . 歐瑪塔雷德, senior director of climate investments at Dream.Org, is an expert on this, and I got to interview her at #Re+! Video coming soon. Training a new wave of advocates is always a privilege, and our experience with the 2024 Dream Justice Cohort has been no exception. This cohort stood out to us even just in their applications for their unwavering commitment to bringing about the #change our country desperately needs. 🎉 Please join us in extending a huge congratulations to these 25 graduates of our 2024 program for putting in months of hard work to develop their advocacy skills and find their voices. This year’s cohort program may be finished, but we’ll be here to support them as they continue their journeys. A big thank you to our Empathy Network leaders, Dream Team staff, and advocacy alumni who came together to celebrate this exceptional group this past weekend.

Equity is not when everyone gets the same thing, it's when everyone gets the amount of support they need. Rural, urban, poor, and communities of color have long gone without the financial support and business investments they deserve. Fixing generations of systemic inequality will require giving historically left out communities the resources they deserve.

In order to solve our nation's toughest problems, we need everyone's innovative ideas to create impactful solutions. That's why we gathered some of the best system-impacted leaders who are the close enough to America’s systemic challenges to know exactly what the solution should be. One of our Dream Entrepreneurs Network members that we're proud to showcase is Dr. Kala Fleming, a CEO filling the gaps in our green job market with her platform Frontline Gig. The mobile platform allows sustainable workers to connect with employers needing help with short-term green projects from trained experts. Opportunity is one thing, but having access to the opportunity is another and we applaud Frontline Gig and Dr. Fleming for increasing the accessibility of good paying green jobs to workers in the DMV area. #sustainability #jobalert #hiring

We're at a critical point in our country where we need to assess and reflect on the overdose crisis plaguing the United States so we can stop it. In 2021, an alarmingly 22.3 people per 100,000 were lost to overdose in the state of Arkansas. Just as troubling, the state has regularly topped the country’s highest average annual rates of drug or alcohol intoxication deaths in prisons. As part of the our Public Health is Public Safety Campaign, LaChandra Moore, a previously incarcerated mother, who has experienced the life altering loss of both her children to fentanyl overdose, reveals her heartbreaking journey from loss to advocacy while calling for safer prison environments and compassionate, human-centered solutions in the state of Arkansas. Mass incarceration and climate change are global problems that require local solutions. But too often, the communities most impacted by these systems of injustice and disparity do not have a seat at the table to influence those solutions. That's why we're investing in future leaders through our Justice Next Cohort, generously made possible through our partnership with the @NBA Foundation. 🏀 Through virtual and in-person training sessions, young leaders will strengthen their skills and knowledge to combat the issues they care about most in their communities.
