I had the privilege of presenting our Chief Nuclear Officer Kelvin Henderson with the U.S. Women in Nuclear Champion Award. This honor celebrates individuals who openly support and empower women to achieve their professional goals. Throughout his 30-year career, Kelvin has advocated for the recognition and advancement of female leaders at Duke Energy and in the industry through development, education and mentorship. Kelvin is a committed ally of women in nuclear and understands the importance of building programs to develop the leaders of tomorrow that our industry needs to usher in the next generation. I can’t think of someone more deserving to receive this recognition.

Hurricane #Debby left roughly 850,000 customers without power. More than 10,000 line and tree workers, damage assessors and support teams deployed across #Florida and the #Carolinas, and worked alongside power plant workers, grid operators and storm response teams to restore power for most customers within 24 hours. Working in tandem with strategically placed crews, smart technology, infrastructure investments and other grid strengthening measures helped save more than 500,000 hours of total outage time and automatically restored approximately 150,000 customer outages. “Our goal is always to be ready to respond when a storm strikes,” said Scott Batson, senior vice president and chief power grid officer at Duke Energy. “And the combination of our people, advanced technology and a storm response process that we work to improve after every storm helps us maintain that readiness to serve our customers effectively when they count on us most.” Learn more about the strategic investments and year-round preparations fueling Duke Energy’s response to severe weather: http://spr.ly/6047lg4Hh

As our summer interns prepare for the upcoming fall semester or their next career opportunities, a few of our senior leaders shared words of wisdom on adversity, triumphs and the importance of embracing the dynamic and fluid nature of the professional journey: 💡 Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe, executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary, shared that road bumps are inevitable. In fact, Ghartey-Tagoe joked that he’d earned a PhD in “pretty hard days.” That’s when maintaining the right outlook mattered most. “Your attitude can determine your altitude,” Ghartey-Tagoe said. “We all face adversity, but it’s how you deal with it that determines whether you lay flat on your back or rise to new levels.” 💡 Bonnie Titone, senior vice president and chief administrative officer, recalled a time early in her career when she declined a new leadership opportunity, believing she didn’t have the right skillset to take it on. “After I declined, [my boss] called me and said, ‘I really think this is something you should entertain,’” Titone said. “He thought I had all the attributes needed to be a successful leader, and he would be there to support me. Those words changed everything for me. Just knowing someone would have my back and be supportive really changed the track of my career.” 💡 Sharene Pierce, vice president, talent acquisition and chief diversity and inclusion officer, shared her belief that to reach your full potential, you must embrace the challenge of navigating the unknown. “When you’re stretched or learning something new or receiving difficult feedback, those are uncomfortable situations,” Pierce said. “But growth is not always easy. So get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” We are immensely proud of our interns and hope they close out the 2024 summer internship session feeling ready to take on their next challenges with confidence. #NationalInternDay [From left] Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe, Bonnie Titone, Sharene Pierce and panel moderator Hannah Castor, senior manager talent acquisition

The lake has also become a boon for public recreation, which, in 2023, welcomed more than 300,000 visitors. Among them were thousands of divers, eager to explore the flooded Jocassee Valley where pristine waters reveal a town of the past. The City of St. Petersburg recently declared July 18 'Duke Energy Day' in recognition of 125 years of utility service in Florida. Headquartered in the heart of historic downtown, Duke Energy Florida and its legacy companies are nearly as old as the city of St. Petersburg, which had about 300 residents when Frank Allston Davis introduced wood-powered electricity. Today, we supply power to 2 million customers in 35 counties across the state. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we honor our rich history in the Sunshine State and look forward to a bright future. Read More: http://spr.ly/6045iWveV
