🌍 #EDGEBuildings Country Spotlight: Egypt 🎉 We are thrilled to announce that the Grand Egyptian Museum has been awarded #EDGEAdvanced Certification from IFC - International Finance Corporation. With the crucial support from SECO Economic Cooperation and Development and the UK Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, this is the first museum to achieve EDGE Advanced Certification in Africa and Middle East. This recognition underscores Egypt’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, while maintaining the legacy of respect for natural resources that runs deep in the country’s rich history. The museum's innovative design and energy-efficient features have not only earned Advanced green certification from IFC, but also set a new standard for green development in Egypt. The Grand Egyptian Museum Campus is one-of-a-kind with a site area of 500,000 m², with the museum itself comprising a total built-up area of 76,658 m². The high-end sustainable design of the museum contributed to the project’s success in earning the EDGE Advanced Green Building Certification. Today we celebrated the successful accreditation of engineers as ‘EDGE Experts’ trained on how to design #greenbuildings in #Jordan. These engineers come from Jordan’s government and municipalities and join a pool of 'EDGE Experts' from the private sector, marking a more than twofold increase in the number of Jordanians who hold this accreditation over the past year and a half.     This is key given that buildings are responsible for approximately 39% of global energy-related GHG emissions and are major consumers of both energy and water. This new initiative is expected to help increase the number of green buildings in Jordan and support the country’s sustainability goals by reducing GHG emissions and improving resource efficiency in the construction sector. It is implemented in collaboration with بنك تنمية المدن والقرى - الأردن CVDB - Jordan and in partnership with the government of the Netherlands (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken).    Globally, EDGE Buildings - Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies - is an IFC innovation designed to advance sustainable building practices and expand their impact. It is currently funded by UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, with original funding from Switzerland's SECO Economic Cooperation and Development . EDGE and IFC - International Finance Corporation were proud to partner with our friends at Asia Pacific Real Assets Association (APREA) recently to host an event and roundtable discussion on the vital importance and future of sustainability in the real estate sector. Following a presentation on IFC's flagship report on green buildings, the group had a productive discussion on how leveraging tools and technologies like EDGE, Building Resilience Index, and APEX Green Cities is essential for the decarbonization of real estate. EDGE is a significant tool that provides transparency and an authentic understanding of what green buildings are and measures the impact of efficiency features, making it a game changer in the field. The group was also able to discuss additional IFC climate tools including BRI and APEX, and how these offerings extend the opportunities in finance for real estate portfolios across all asset classes and cities worldwide. We were pleased to host the group at IFC's offices in Singapore, and look forward to more discussions in other regions.
