The best feedback is when teachers tell you the work you are doing impacts them and their classroom. Read: "5 Lessons Learned from an AI Early Adopter" and learn how EDSAFE AI helps educators determine if an AI tool provides transparent information on its data usage and follows established guidelines. "Asking questions like "Is this AI tool being offered by a reputable company?" or "Was this designed and built specifically for education?" can be a helpful starting point. Beyond the usability, you'll also want to make sure the AI product or tool has publicly available information about how it uses data, or perhaps a set of guidelines and principles. For example, in our district, it is required that all ed tech be compliant with Ed Law 2d. Another great resource is the EDSAFE AI Alliance." - Tyler Brown, T.H.E. The EDSAFE AI Alliance aims to promote AI's safe, accountable, fair, and equitable (SAFE) use in education. Led by a Steering Committee of leading education, technology, and learning organizations, the Alliance joins forces to address one of our time's most pressing educational policy challenges. Anchored in the SAFE framework, EDSAFE focuses on policy development and support at the federal, state, and local level through our education and advocacy efforts. We support the field through a national network of district-level policy labs and a groundbreaking fellowship to build the field's capacity.

The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology just passed two K-12 education-related bipartisan bills to ensure U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence (AI). Thank you, Chairman Frank Lucas and Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren. They now move on to be considered by the full House of Representatives. H.R. 9211, the LIFT AI Act, improves educational efforts related to artificial intelligence literacy at the K-12 level. National Science Foundation (NSF) grants can be provided to higher ed institutions and non-profits to support research activities to develop curriculum and professional development for AI literacy. This bill is led by Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) and Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01). H.R. 9402, the NSF AI Education Act of 2024, supports education and professional development related to artificial intelligence. It offers funds to higher ed students who might teach about AI, fellowships for school teachers, and establishes centers of excellence to support school systems implementing AI in education. This bill is led by Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20) and Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06). While legislators continue to debate AI technical regulations, I'm glad to see common sense foundational policies that support AI literacy move forward. Congress wants to #TeachAI
