📉 July 2024 Manufacturing Employment Update: Mixed Signals Amidst Ongoing Challenges The latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows a modest gain of +1,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector, despite continued headwinds. Key highlights: - Gains: Paper Manufacturing (+2,400 jobs) and Nonmetallic Mineral Products (+2,000 jobs) lead the way. - Losses: Furniture Manufacturing (-2,700 jobs) and Machinery Manufacturing (-1,600 jobs) face significant declines. - Wages: Average hourly earnings continue to rise, with production workers seeing a 5.4% YoY increase. - Quit Rate: Declined to 1.6%, reflecting increased caution among workers.
