In the Mohmand household, literacy is a cherished ritual. Fariha Mohmand, an Afghan refugee and former educator, jumped at the chance to enroll her son Yousof in Nebraska Growing Readers' Incoming Kindergarten program. With free weekly books and a fun mailbox ritual, Yousof and his brother Soliman are not just learning to love reading—they're also building their own literacy skills. Nebraska Growing Readers is a partnership between Nebraska Children, Unite for Literacy, Nebraska Department of Education, and the Statewide Family Engagement Center of Nebraska.
