For more than 30 years, we’ve developed innovative ways to end violence against women, children, and families.
About us
Futures Without Violence (FUTURES) is a national nonprofit organization leading groundbreaking educational programs, policies, and campaigns that empower individuals and organizations working to end violence against women and children around the world. Providing leadership from offices in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Boston, FUTURES has trained thousands of professionals and advocates--such as doctors, nurses, judges, athletic coaches, and other community influences--on improving responses to violence and abuse. The organization was a driving force behind the passage of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994—the nation’s first comprehensive federal response to the violence that plagues families and communities. The country breathed a collective sigh of relief on Friday when the U.S. Supreme Court averted catastrophe with its ruling in United States v. Rahimi...But it is not nearly enough. We need meaningful solutions. We need to: 👉🏽Help courts and communities to ensure that guns are surrendered and measures are in place to determine if it is safe to return them when a protective order ends 👉🏽Educate lawmakers and judges about the need to improve relinquishment procedures, ensure compliance and take action when perpetrators fail to hand over their guns Read more from FUTURES Founder and President, Esta Soler's article in Ms. Magazine and learn about what FUTURES is doing to end violence. https://lnkd.in/ecGt24Zf
