A big thank you to Global New Orleans for welcoming Mexican law enforcement officials to New Orleans for a U.S. Department of State Law Enforcement and Security Exchange Program (LESEP) on combating gender-based violence. Participants exchanged knowledge with U.S. counterparts on recognizing warning signs of abuse, raising awareness of gender-based violence, and learning about the types of support available to survivors.    The #InternationalExchange began with a keynote address from Walter Wolf, lawyer and Intellectual Property Rights Manager for the National World War II Museum, who gave an overview of New Orleans’ law enforcement agencies. Participants also visited the Eden Centers for Hope and Healing to learn about their work addressing human trafficking and violence against women and learned about academic research in the field of gender-based violence at the Newcomb Institute at Tulane University. Who is a leader? A new short film by WorldOregon's 2023-2024 Young Leaders in Action (YLA) cohort set out to explore this question as part of their capstone project. We spoke with Deb Delman, manager of the YLA program, about the ways YLA inspires local teens to take action and become leaders. “They say youth are the leaders of the future. Spread the word: The application for the U.S. Exchange Alumni Fellowship is now open. This new professional development initiative for U.S. citizen #ExchangeAlumni - Alumni Affairs - State Dept. will engage U.S. #ExchangeAlumni as regional advocates for #InternationalExchange programs and strengthen alumni networks throughout the United States. The nine-month Fellowship, to begin in January 2025, will equip six U.S. ExchangeAlumni to organize, network with, and manage outreach to local alumni in their assigned regions. Each Fellow will cover a specific region of the United States, with one Fellow to be based in Washington, DC at the Global Ties U.S. office. The application is open through September 17. We are thrilled to share that findings from our new 2024 Global Ties U.S. Community Impact Study confirm that U.S. participation in #InternationalExchange programs like the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) generate positive impacts for U.S. workforce development and community-building. The study received responses from 773 people from 53 local organizations in 28 states, covering every geographic region of the United States and with respondents having decades of combined experience hosting international leaders through exchange programs. More than 72% of respondents said their involvement in exchanges like the #IVLP increased their global knowledge, civic engagement, professional reputation, and international connectivity. New qualitative questions expanded on the quantitative findings to give greater insights into this year's report. Shared Global Ties U.S. President and CEO Katherine A. Brown, Ph.D.: “This second Community Impact study validates last year’s findings, and yields a deeper understanding of why exchanges matter for our nationwide respondents and their communities. Global Ties Network members most recently reported in our National Impact report an 8:1 return on the investment made in their communities through federal exchange programs, and this study goes beyond the economic impact to measure socio-cultural benefits. Taken together, the data illuminates the power of exchange right here at home.” The 2024 Community Impact Study was led by Cherie Saulter, Ph.D. and builds upon preliminary findings from a February 2023 study carried out in partnership with the University of Southern California USC Center on Public Diplomacy. Research was funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by Global Ties U.S. in collaboration with local Community-Based Members across the United States.
