We're excited about the newly released Strategic Framework for a National Plan on Aging. Our CEO Lindsay Goldman calls it "unprecedented." It focuses on age-friendly communities, coordinated housing and supportive services, increased access to long-term services and supports, and aligned health care and supportive services and, as Rani Snyder of The John A. Hartford Foundation observes, "The cross-sectoral approach to supporting us all as we age will be vitally important." It is early days (still needs funding) but a really important "first" - and the work continues. One of the biggest health challenges in aging just got a little easier. When a family member needs care for dementia, most caregivers are unprepared and overwhelmed, and there is little federal help or support. Until now. Rani Snyder of The John A. Hartford Foundation and our own Lindsay Goldman are among the aging funders expressing enthusiasm for the new Medicare GUIDE (Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience) program which will help by creating a free national network of dementia-care navigators to offer individualized advice, a 24/7 helpline, and financial support for respite care.
