Green Dot parent and student leaders, working through United Parents and Students (UPAS), joined several LA City Councilmembers at a press conference pushing for a restoration of funding for BIG:LEAP, the City's Guaranteed Income (GBI) program. During its one-year pilot, the program served 3,200 households with $1,000 per month in cash assistance. In addition to its financial benefits, the program also has immense social benefits in terms of family stability, nutrition, and reductions in domestic violence. #GreenDot #UPAS

🌟 Last week at San Diego Comic-Con was a blast! 🎉 We had some fantastic panels featuring Green Dot staff and their amazing work: 1️⃣ Teaching & Learning with Comics: An Interactive Workshop 🖋️📚 Literacy Curriculum Specialist Manager Peter Carlson and friends Susan Kirtley, and Antero Garcia led a hands-on workshop. They explored how to incorporate comics into K-12 curricula and engaged participants in creating dynamic lesson plans! 2️⃣ Comics Transforming Education 💥📖 Alain Leroy Locke College Preparatory Academy teachers, MarQuitta Sutton-Adams , Warren Smith, and Devora Orfloff with Literacy Curriculum Specialist Leondria Brown showcased how they use comics like Marvel’s Black Panther and Hawkeye to teach Shakespeare’s The Tempest. It was a game-changer for making literature come alive! 3️⃣ Getting through the First Issue 🎨👩🏫 Austin Bruns (Ánimo Leadership High School) shared his first-year teaching experiences and integration of comics, graphic novels, and pop culture into the curriculum.
