High school senior linebacker Anthony Speciale knows the value of determination and grit. After tearing his left ACL, LCL and damaging his peroneal nerve during a football game in 2022, the Florida native underwent surgery and persevered through his recovery and rehabilitation. Despite lingering challenges with foot drop, Anthony was determined to get back on the field. After connecting with National Orthotics Specialist Chris Toelle and clinician Carly Gambacorta at the #HangerClinic in Sarasota, FL, he was fit with a custom 3D-printed ankle foot orthosis to support his foot and ankle. Anthony's device has allowed him to return to the game and continue his dream of one day playing college football. The #HangerFoundation announced today it will partner with five universities as part of the 2024-2025 Hanger Foundation Diversity Scholarship program, which was established in 2021 to help recruit underrepresented students into the #OandP profession.   Alabama State University, Kennesaw State University, Northwestern University, Salus University and University of Pittsburgh have been selected to award a two-year scholarship to students to help supplement the cost of their Masters of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Like many kids his age, 6-year-old Jackson loves all things sports. Born with spina bifida, he plays sled hockey with the Disabled Athlete Sports Association, baseball with the Miracle League and is even getting into adaptive soccer! Jackson is also a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, as evidenced by the designs on his custom bilateral knee ankle foot orthoses (KAFOs) that he uses to increase his mobility. His #HangerClinic orthotist, Lynne Snyder in Jefferson City, MO, says Jackson has enjoyed every sport he's tried and never lets anything stop him from achieving his goals. As he gets ready to start kindergarten, Jackson’s #NeverGiveUp attitude continues to push him to try new things. He is working on walking more independently in his devices—and he's excited to cheer on the Chiefs in their upcoming season. After losing her right leg below the knee to synovial sarcoma in 2016, Skylar became a patient at the #HangerClinic in Mayfield Heights, OH. There, clinician Matthew Manolio has fit her with prosthetic devices over the years to restore her function and mobility. As a longtime athlete and model, Skylar loves all things sporty and sparkly, and recently asked Matthew if it would be possible to have some bling added to her prosthesis before heading off to college. After ten hours of Matthew carefully placing the rhinestones on one by one, the finished product is nothing short of bedazzling! As Skylar enters her freshman year at The University of Alabama, she'll be playing on the women's wheelchair basketball team, and we're excited to see her continue to go after her dreams. Amniotic band syndrome led to the absence of the left leg below the knee for 16-month-old Jendayi, who was born prematurely at 33 weeks. She was recently fit with her first prosthetic leg by clinician Maleah Brody, CPO at the #HangerClinic in Children's Wisconsin. Jendayi's five older siblings are incredibly supportive of their sister, cheering her on as she works toward her goals of standing, walking, and one day running. We know this is just the beginning for this adorable toddler, and we can't wait to see what she accomplishes next with Maleah and team by her side. #EmpoweredCareers

Amy recently celebrated her 20-year anniversary at ACP, where she started in clinical education and held various leadership positions before advancing to lead all clinical operations. Over the years, Amy has demonstrated her passion for improving the field and her dedication for enhancing patient outcomes through evidence-based rehab solutions. Fourth grader Alaina loves camping, science, cheer, and the Savannah Bananas baseball team. After being diagnosed with bone cancer in her left leg in July 2023, Alaina underwent a rotationplasty amputation and was fit with her first prosthesis by the Savannah, GA #HangerClinic team this past February. Her mom, Mary shared: “Our Hanger team, Stephen Miller and Haley Counihan, went above and beyond for us – more than I would have ever imagined.” Throughout Alaina’s treatment and amputation recovery, she’s had the chance to build a special bond with the Bananas team, even taking some of her first steps in her new prosthesis on the field alongside the players. Now in remission, Alaina is looking forward to the new school year and sharing her encouragement for others: “Never give up. There’s an army waiting for you.” #EmpoweredCareers
