The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, marked the 78th Independence Day with a powerful message of growth and transformation. He outlined a vision for India to become a developed nation by 2047 through bold economic reforms and advancements in critical sectors like banking, manufacturing, technology, and space exploration. The recent drop in U.S. weekly jobless claims, with 17,000 fewer Americans applying for unemployment benefits than expected, is a positive indicator for the labor market. Despite earlier concerns that the job market might be weakening, these figures suggest that the market remains resilient, even as it gradually softens. The slight slowdown in job growth is largely due to more cautious hiring, influenced by the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes. It's encouraging to see layoffs remain low, reflecting a stable job environment. Additionally, there is a strong possibility that the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates in the near future, which could further support economic growth. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget 2024 speech on July 23 has set the stage for an ambitious economic strategy. Focused on job creation, with special emphasis on women, farmers, and youth, the budget aims to achieve an inclusive growth cycle. The budget also introduces significant tax adjustments for investors, increases funding for agriculture, and proposes measures to support the MSME sector.
