Meet Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA) Property Manager Nick Echterling. The Hoosier native has had a long DNR history as he grew up hunting and fishing with his dad at LaSalle and Glendale FWAs. After graduating with his bachelor’s in wildlife biology, the Purdue grad returned to familiar grounds, working as an intermittent and laborer at LaSalle, assistant manager at Glendale and manager at Hovey Lake FWA. In 2020, Echterling returned to northern Indiana becoming JP property manager, where he manages the wetlands to provide ideal roosting habitat for sandhill crane migrations. In his free time, Echterling enjoys waterfowl hunting and fishing, especially on Lake Michigan for Coho salmon. #IndianaDNR

The incumbent provides technical expertise about the National Flood Insurance and floodplain mapping Cooperating Technical Partner programs as well as the Indiana Floodplain Information Portal. In this position, you will manage and direct technical employees working on major regulatory, environmental, and safety programs, such as floodway regulation, waterway computer modeling, river restoration, application review for new or improvements to existing dams and levees, or similar established programs. Applicants need a bachelor's in civil, environmental, or agricultural engineering with an emphasis on surface water hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage as well as five years of responsible hydraulic engineering work experience. Collaborating with government officials, staff, and the public, the incumbent will evaluate the effects of Federal or state action effects on historic properties and find ways to avoid, minimize, and mitigate them on cultural resources. This reviewer also provides education and outreach about historic preservation. To be considered for this job, a Bachelor’s degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field and two years of research, writing, or teaching experience in American architectural history or restoration architecture is needed.
