For us, #HealthWorkers are the ultimate humanitarians. On #WorldHumanitarianDay we honor all health workers, and especially those we partner with in conflict areas in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and South Sudan. For many health workers, going to work means risking their lives. According to the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition, in places in conflict in 2023 there were over 2,500 incidents of violence against health workers and the places they work, including 49 incidents in Burkina Faso, 41 in Mali, as well as incidents in Ethiopia, Niger, Nigeria, and South Sudan. Violence against health workers continues in places in conflict around the world, including in countries where we work. In 2023 in South Sudan, health workers were killed, arrested, and kidnapped, including while administering vaccines.
