Meet my student, Vidya Madhavan!    She took my venture capital class in 2020 during her MBA at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Immediately after graduating, Vidya started Schmooze, a new-generation dating app that focuses on fun and stress-free socialization. Like swiping memes, not people.     Schmooze has so far successfully connected more than 30,000 people and been featured in TechCrunch, on the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” and in other national media. Now, Vidya and her team are growing Schmooze in her home country of India as well.     Vidya shared with me that the Venture Mindset she developed impacted her path to success in a powerful manner.     “They say entrepreneurship is something you learn only by doing,” Vidya said. “However, some things are better learned in a classroom, so that a founder can avoid costly mistakes in the future.    “These hard skills are what I picked up in Ilya’s class. From seed-stage companies to the ones about to hold their IPO, the examples that Ilya would bring to both our regular class meetings and the extra sessions he held for nerds like me have helped me immensely in my entrepreneurial journey.
