Congratulations to Nick Crawford, Kettering Health Troy's DAISY Award winner! Nick is an RN who works in Surgery. He was nominated by a patient who shared: "This was my first experience with Kettering Health Troy. I found it to be awesome, facility clean, staff was kind and professional, procedure orderly and timely. But my RN Nick was my first contact with staff. He was warm and friendly, very reassuring throughout my visit. He was so sensitive to my needs and popped in throughout the procedure to check on me and explained each step to me. He was so awesome, kind, and smiles all the time. He listened to me rattle on about my 'pain cream' and gave me his professional opinion on it! It was really hard to select for extraordinary because all the staff are, in my opinion. Most of all it was so refreshing when Dr. Hadley asked to pray for me, we found that so touching and it made me feel less anxious about the whole thing. Thank you for my care and thanks, Nick!" Way to go, Nick!

Congratulations to Lisa Elliott, Kettering Health Main Campus's DAISY Award winner! Lisa was nominated by a patient, who shared: "I was admitted to Kettering Health Main Campus. I was fortunate to have Lisa Elliott as one of my nurses. The care she displayed then went above and beyond in the way she talked with me, prayed with me when I requested her to and provided me comfort and courage during a truly heartbreaking situation of potentially losing my son. I was sent home after a few days. Then the worst happened. I went into labor and returned to the hospital. Lisa was once again the first face I saw. She greeted me with such kindness and efficiency with her actions to help me get comfortable, to figure out what was happening, and to alert the doctors with my needs. Lisa was with me while I delivered my sweet baby. She informed me of what that process would look like and promised to stay by my side. She was encouraging as I was terrified to deliver my son who I knew would not live long earth side, she was attentive to my needs and then most importantly attentive to his. Once the baby was delivered, she compassionately scooped him up and wrapped him in warm blankets, kept checking his little heart rate, ran and got a size-appropriate hat made for him, and helped provide strength during such a vulnerable time. She even came to the operating room with me and knelt on the floor providing me comfort when I had to have a procedure and I was overwhelmed and scared. After my son passed, Lisa made sure to get his footprints for me, arranged for a photographer to come in and take my most cherished photos, and have concrete molds made. She then was there to assist me in getting my hair brushed, showered, and helped me navigate the grief I was feeling. She was truly a pillar in some of the hardest days of my life, providing a bright smile, knowledge, grace, prayer, and peace for me. I can’t put into words how truly meaningful Lisa being my nurse was, but I hope she knows I think of her and her compassion every single day." Way to be there for your patients, Lisa!

Earlier this month, we partnered with the Ohio National Guard - The Adjutant General's Department of Ohio, Greene County Public Health, and the Ohio Department of Health for the annual GuardCare No Cost Healthcare event. We're so grateful to have been a part of the event, which served more than 1,000 patients!

Earlier this week, we raised money for the 2024 Heart Walk, which takes place on September 28, through a Treadmill Challenge. Leaders from each campus participated to help raise funds. In one hour, we logged a total of 62.63 miles and, in total, raised $6,341.90!

Yesterday, our Surgical Emergency Response Team (SERT) participated in emergency training with the Beavercreek Township Fire Department and MedFlight. The SERT practiced their field surgery response plan during the drill, navigating a staged collapsed building and communicating with the fire department and MedFlight to arrange transportation for the injured "patient." A big thank you to the SERT for taking the time to participate in the drill! Trainings like these ensure we're ready to help if disaster strikes.

Congratulations to Claudine Uwera, Kettering Health Washington Township's Sunflower Award winner! Claudine works in MedSurg. She was nominated by a coworker, who shared: "Saturday was a super busy night with a high patient acuity. She went patient to patient without complaint and would ask who was next after she finished. She would seek out other staff and ensure they were helped too. She had her usual wide smile going room to room, making several patients laugh and smile in return. I would like for her hard work to be appreciated." Way to go, Claudine!

Kettering Health is accepting applications for this year’s Hand Day, an annual event that provides free hand surgery to uninsured Dayton-area residents. 

Country singer Scotty McCreery performed at the Kettering Health Foundation's 33rd annual Heart to Heart concert in support of the Heart and Vascular service line. The event raised over $400,000 to help our Heart and Vascular team in its mission to care for those with heart disease. Thank you to all who attended and supported!

Congratulations to Aster Wasehun, Kettering Health Dayton's DAISY Award winner! Aster was nominated by a patient, who shared: "Aster is literally the best nurse ever! I’ve had her multiple times over the years and every time I’ve ever had her she treats me like I’m her family! There has been times when she wasn’t my nurse and she will come to my room and check on me and braid my hair for me! And help out the other nurses any way she can! Aster goes completely out of her way to make her patients and their family feel comfortable and at ease knowing the family's sick loved one is in great hands and is well taken care of! I also love the fact that no matter how busy Aster is she doesn’t make her patients feel rushed or anything she makes sure all your questions and concerns are answered and she always has a beautiful smile while taking care of me! I’m so thankful to have Aster as a nurse taking care of me during my hospital stay! Thanks for everything Aster! I really appreciate everything you have done for me over the years." Way to go, Aster!
