In his latest LTH column, Dennis Kennedy writes about one of the ways to raise your law department's profile that is not often openly discussed: win an award. There are plenty of awards programs that exist specifically to celebrate the innovative approach a legal department takes to solving a problem. Though some professionals shy away from external sources of approval like awards, Dennis asks a good question: if your department and your team has done good work, why would you not want to see it celebrated? Winning an award can highlight your team's success and talent externally, but perhaps even more important, it will raise them up internally in a way that may help the business understand better the true value you bring.
