Kudos to Lucy Therapeutics, who recently announced they raised $12.5 million in additional funding led by existing and new investors. The company is working to develop novel therapies based on mitochondrial small-molecule treatments and diagnostic biomarkers for complex neurological diseases. Lucy Therapeutics is a previous MassNextGen awardee. The MLSC initiative is designed to support underrepresented entrepreneurs by providing them with a year-long customized package of support, which includes non-dilutive grant funding and access to a network of seasoned professionals from the life sciences ecosystem helping them to refine their business strategies and effectively raise capital. Held on April 25th, this year's symposium marked our first hybrid event, blending in-person attendance with virtual participation to accommodate a diverse audience from around the globe. Meet Ash Jain, Lucy's new Sr. Accounting Manager! With a wealth of #experience in both large and small #biotech organizations, Ash brings valuable expertise to her role at Lucy. She thrives on developing strong business partnerships with R&D teams, driving operational efficiencies, and designing processes that streamline workflows through automation. When asked what inspired her to join Lucy, Ash shared, "While interviewing at Lucy, I resonated with the shared values that acknowledge the power of #collaboration and camaraderie. I felt a sense of belonging and envisioned this environment as one where I could meaningfully contribute to the team's synergy." Ash began her #finance journey in her home country of India, but she feels relocating to the United states played a crucial role in shaping her perspective and career path. “Having grown up in India, my journey took a transformative turn upon immigrating to the United States,” she said. She went on to explain that she had to navigate many uncertainties while she sought to redefine and identify what she could control during this change. Using the title of Marie Forleo’s book as her mantra, Ash believes that “Everything is figureoutable” and we couldn’t agree more! She has a deep appreciation for the intricacies of the finance function and thinks of her role as a storyteller of sorts – as she defines it, she is “telling the story behind the numbers.” For those starting out in the accounting-biotech field, Ash offers some great words of encouragement: "In the dynamic biotech space, resourcefulness, bias for action, and curiosity thrive," she says. Outside of work, Ash unwinds by taking walks through nature, savoring a cold brew, cooking, and fulfilling her role as the Chief Fun Officer at home. She describes herself as "an aspiring minimalist, passionate about simple living, and being a lifelong learner." Her adventurous spirit shines through her love of roller coasters and true crime podcasts, and she dreams of visiting Tanzania, drawn by its wildlife and natural beauty.
