Spotlight on Innovation: Floris Engelhardt, 2024 Termeer Fellow and CEO of Kano Therapeutics We are so happy to celebrate a monumental achievement by one of the 2024 Termeer Fellows, Dr. Floris Engelhardt. As the visionary cofounder and CEO of Kano Therapeutics, Floris is steering the future of genetic medicine with groundbreaking technology developed at MIT’s Bathe BioNanoLab. Kano Therapeutics recently secured a landmark $7.1 million in funding, co-led by The Engine Ventures and Vsquared Ventures, to escalate their development of single-stranded DNA technologies aimed at curing genetic diseases. This investment will launch Kano's internal pipeline development, expand their existing collaborations with drug developers, and scale their ssDNA production capacity. We are thrilled to announce that PhagePro, led by 2020 Termeer Fellow, Minmin Yen, Ph.D., MPH (she/her), has been awarded a significant START grant by MassVentures.   Under Minmin's leadership, PhagePro is pioneering the development of phage-based therapies aimed at tackling some of the most pressing health challenges in emerging markets. These therapies are designed to be effective in environments that lack the infrastructure typically required for conventional medical products, reflecting a deep understanding of the contexts they are meant to serve.   Minmin's work and vision exemplify the kind of leadership and commitment to healthcare innovation that the Termeer Foundation promotes. By focusing on diseases that disproportionately affect under-resourced areas, PhagePro is advancing medical science and addressing global health disparities.
