  • Congratulations to Melissa Chittum, ICU nurse at Marshfield Medical Center-Weston. She recently received a DASH (Donation Advocate Super Hero) Award from the UW Organ and Tissue Donation program! One DASH Award is presented each month to a hospital staff member who provides extraordinary care to a donor patient and/or a donor patient’s family. Melissa was nominated by an organ procurement coordinator who shared the following feedback: “Melissa was amazing to work with. She had wonderful critical thinking skills. Her priorities were maintaining the patient for organ donation and being there for family as needed. She kept in close contact with this coordinator when the patient continued to become more unstable and required getting to the OR expeditiously. She even stayed past her shift to sit with the patient’s wife while he went in for his recovery surgery. She exemplifies what the DASH award nominee should be.” Melissa graciously recognized her colleagues during the award presentation. Kudos to her and every team member involved in this patient’s care.

This honor provides recognition for the work Anderson has done as an advocate for people with developmental disabilities and board member for Wisconsin Board of People with Developmental Disabilities, but also opens the door to new opportunities by spreading awareness at a national level. “I think it is cool to meet people from all over the country," Anderson said. “I just want to make sure people with disabilities and other marginalized groups get represented and spread awareness for things I'm passionate about."

  • Congrats to Dr. Adedayo Onitilo, who was recently presented with his 25th Shining Star. He, along with oncology nurse navigator Amanda Boreen, were nominated by a grateful family. Amanda's Shining Star was presented to her in May. Here's what the family had to say about their care: "It is with heartfelt gratitude that we respectfully ask that Dr. Onitilo, and nurse Amanda Boreen be recognized as Shining Stars, for the “profound” way their decisions, actions, and deeds have affected our lives. Dr. Onitilo and nurse Amanda have given the greatest possible gift one can give another – The gift of life. After a stage four cancer diagnosis, thirty months ago, and because of a comprehensive treatment plan directed and initiated by Dr. Onitilo, my wife is now in full complete remission with no sign of recurrence. The “miracle” is the direct result of the decisions and actions taken by Dr. Onitilo and the exhaustive efforts of nurse Amanda Boreen as she performed the navigation process over the entire treatment period. We thank God for the life-saving care and decisive decision-making by Dr. Onitilo and the loving care and professional assistance Amanda provided. We would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Onitilo and Amanda Boreen along with the many doctors, surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses and countless technical staff who collectively helped perform a miracle. May God bless everyone who helped give my wife – The gift of Life."
