This summer, our academic team worked tirelessly toward our goal to ensure all students are reading on grade level by third grade! Thanks to the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) grant, we’ve launched new libraries in every K-3 classroom at Clymer, Douglass, and McGraw elementary schools. Our team spent the summer organizing books by grade levels and themes. These books will be refreshed regularly, offering our students new stories to explore both in and out of the classroom. We can't wait to see the joy on our students’ faces as they discover new worlds through reading, and we’re looking forward to an exciting year ahead! #MasteryReads #WeAreMastery #PHLed #NJed

We are back! Mastery Schools welcomed students and families to our 23 campuses for school year 2024-2025. On day one, I had the pleasure of walking Nesstia Goodman and her two children, fifth grader Nayyirah Armstrong and kindergartener Nayyar Armstrong, to Frederick Douglass Elementary for the first day of school. Watching our students run into the school building full of joy, engaging with parents as they said their goodbyes, and connecting with community members, including our dedicated crossing guards, reminds me why we do the work we do for our students and families. The first day of school is special every year, but this year, it is even more exciting as we embark on the implementation of a new five-year strategic plan. This plan will propel us forward, ensuring we continue to fulfill our mission to provide all students with the personal and academic skills they need to truly be successful and pursue their dreams. As I spoke one-on-one with Ms. Goodman and other parents, our conversations circled back to this commitment and I am full of anticipation to see what we will accomplish together this school year. #WeAreMastery #PHLed #FirstDayofSchool

Join us in congratulating Anthony Buatti and Ashley Jones, MSHE on their graduation from the Master's in Public Education Management program at The Broad Center at the Yale School of Management. Buatti, Senior Director of People Operations, and Jones, Director of Postsecondary Placement, spent 14 months in the rigorous program gaining insights into effective school system leadership, exploring public education policy, and learning strategies to combat inequities impacting student outcomes. We appreciate their commitment to professional growth and their continued dedication to serving our students and families. #WeAreMastery

We are thrilled to announce Shoemaker Campus has been named a "Beat the Odds" school and is being awarded a $40,000 planning grant from Elevate 215. The school was specifically recognized for it's intentional and effective efforts to prepare students for success after graduation. Additionally, the grant will help the school in its pursuit of the Mastery mission to provide all students with the personal and academic skills they need to pursue their dreams and succeed. It was a spectacular day in Philadelphia and Camden as Mastery Schools students returned to our 23 campuses for school year 2024-2025. School year 2024-2025 is off to a great start! The first day of school began with Mastery Schools CEO, Dr. Joel Boyd, walking kindergartener Nayyar Armstrong, fifth grader Nayyirah Armstrong, and their mother Nesstia Goodman to Frederick Douglass Elementary in Philadelphia, while taking in Nayyar’s excitement and Nayyirah’s dedication to remaining an honor student. In Camden, the morning kicked off with Principal Lynette Padin-Reyes traveling with fifth grader Jose Ramírez-Vargas, his parents, Jose Ramírez and Glendaliz Vargas, and other students from their homes to East Camden Middle. In Case You Missed It: There are big things to celebrate in Camden! After a $16 million renovation, Molina Upper and Molina Lower have reunited to serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade. With brighter, more spacious classrooms, a beautiful front entrance, updated outdoor spaces and a new gym, staff, students and families are ready for an exciting school year. 📢 Announcement: Elevate 215 Awards $160K in Planning Grants to 4 District and Charter High Schools The School District of Philadelphia's Building 21 Philadelphia, Imhotep Institute Charter High School, Mastery Schools Shoemaker, and Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School are recognized for “beating the odds” (BTO) by producing graduates who are thriving after high school. Stacy Holland, Executive Director of Elevate 215 stated: “These high schools have developed intentional and effective models that utilize innovative practices to prepare their students for post-secondary success. Our goal is to collaborate with the schools over the next few months to create action plans that will further accelerate student growth and ensure long-term success.” The selected high schools were identified through data analysis based on specific demographic, income and performance criteria. New members of the Mastery Schools community received a warm welcome and learned about our #OneTeam value at the 2024 New Hire Social. The event gave them the chance to connect with returning teachers and leaders, share stories, and build on the bonds that make our community strong. During our annual One Team Day, staff from the central office visited all 23 schools to help new Mastery teachers set up their classrooms and prepare campus spaces for an incredible school year ahead.
