Join healthcare professionals, community organization representatives, educators and researchers on Oct. 21–22 at Mayo Clinic Health System’s second annual national symposium, Transforming Community and Rural Healthcare 2024: Inspiring Partnerships and Scaling Collaborative Impact. 2023 symposium attendee Jerome Ferson, the President of the United Way of Olmsted County, shared this about his experience: “The 2023 Transforming Community and Rural Healthcare Symposium highlighted the unique challenges of creating healthy communities in rural areas, particularly concerning the social determinants of health. The event underscored the critical need for community-based organizations to collaborate with healthcare providers and governmental entities. By working together, we can more effectively address issues like access to education, stable housing and economic opportunities—key factors in the well-being of our rural communities. I’m excited for the 2024 Symposium to continue this process of understanding and discovery as we build on these insights and strengthen our efforts to create a healthier, more equitable future for all.” This year's symposium presentations and discussions will address pressing healthcare issues facing rural America: collaborative partnerships, the workforce of the future, rural cancer care, behavioral health, health equity, health policy, financial stability, and digital health and artificial intelligence. The event will be held at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester and by livestream. Visit the course website for more information and to register: https://mayocl.in/3YSg5gn

Congratulations to David L., a registered nurse, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing, who recently received The DAISY Award. Read an excerpt from the nomination: "I cannot say enough good things about David. Last year I had my first nephrology appointment. I was scared because I had an ultrasound and I knew this was the appointment that would tell how bad my kidneys are. David called me from the waiting room, greeted with a smile and was just so nice. Then before he took my blood pressure, we chatted and joked and that interaction helped alleviate the tension of a serious appointment. David helped ease the tension for both of my appointments by just listening, joking and having some faith in his patient with anxiety, which makes me want to go to my nephrology appointment, even if I am scared of what the nephrologist will say at the appointment." Mayo Clinic Health System is among over 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide committed to the DAISY Award program. The DAISY Award is presented each month to an extraordinary nurse.
