As part of our Character Education program, we share ways that we can help each other #FindYourShine through our nine character traits all school year. Going back to class after the summer break can be difficult for some scholars, especially if they overcame something at home or school. It takes courage to overcome the challenges that we face each day. 💪 Simply sending a text or message recognizing someone's courageous behavior can go a long way! 🤳✊ What's one way you can show #Courage or recognize it in someone else today? 🏅

Our MCS Board of Education welcomed the new school year at the August 19 Board meeting with our first student pledgers of the year! Fifth grader Katherine always looks for ways to positively contribute on campus and is a natural leader. She is a recess buddy and is involved in student leadership. Katherine enjoys arts and crafts and participates in the band. She arrived at Burbank in second grade and spoke limited English, but with hard work and dedication, she was reclassified as English proficient. 📚 📒 After high school, Katherine wants to go to college and aspires to be a teacher. Sixth grader Sarahi, also from Burbank Elementary, is an outstanding student. She is a recess buddy, is always helpful, and is a role model to her peers. Sarahi enjoys reading fiction books, crocheting gifts for friends, and studying in her free time. After a lot of hard work, she was also reclassified as English proficient and has excelled in her academics. After high school, Sarahi wants to go to college to be a science teacher because she likes to learn about water, plants, and animals. 🔬 ⚗️ Way to go Sarahi and Katherine! 👏 #MCS4Kids

As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, we are excited to announce the appointment of our two new Student Board Representatives, Ahmad Dagher from Modesto High School and Kaveri Gupta from Gregori High School. In response to our growing student population of approximately 30,000 students across 34 school sites, the Board has expanded student representation to include not one, but two student voices this year. Ahmad Dagher comes to the Board with an impressive background, including serving as President of the Modesto High Speech and Debate Team, Secretary of the County Office of Education's “Protecting Health and Slamming Tobacco” youth initiative, and as a Student Senator at Modesto High. Ahmad is eager to contribute to the Board's discussions and represent his peers with dedication. Kaveri Gupta's leadership roles include positions in Future Business Leaders of America, Academic Decathlon, and the Math Superbowl. Kaveri is also a talented participant in Speech and Debate, Mock Trials, and the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra. She is strongly committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment within our school community. Please join us in welcoming Student Representatives Dagher and Gupta as they bring their passion, experience, and commitment to representing student voices on the Board. We look forward to their unique perspectives and contributions throughout the year. Welcome Ahmad and Kaveri! #MCS4Kids #SuccessAtMCS

As we gear up for another successful school year at MCS, we're excited to uplift our Character Education Program! ✍️ For more than 25 years, MCS has instilled nine character traits in each of the scholars that pass through our schools. 🏫 With these traits, students are better equipped to achieve their goals in the classroom, at home, and later in life. 🏆 As we move through the 2024-2025 school year, look for our featured character trait every month! 📆 Let's make this school year even better by remembering to #FindYourShine daily! 🤝 ✨
