  • One of the best parts about becoming a trainee teacher with the NIoT is the amazing community you get to be a part of. With over 1,000 trainees across the country, you’re joining a network of people who are in the same boat as you. It’s a great opportunity to share your experiences, get advice and support, and celebrate your wins together. It's not too late - you still have 2 days to sign up and be part of this year's cohort, so get your application in by midnight on Friday 19th July.

  • 📚 NEW RESEARCH LAUNCH🚀 We are excited to announce the publication of our new research project, a pilot of the Teacher Education Dataset (PiloTED), which explores how anonymised data from multi-academy trusts can be used to estimate teacher impact and inform professional development. This project was inspired by a simple but challenging question: how do you measure a teacher's impact? We know that effective teachers make a huge difference to pupil outcomes, but we lack reliable and valid ways of comparing teachers' effectiveness across different contexts and assessments. Working with Evidence Based Education, we consolidated anonymised assessment data from our four founding multi-academy trusts to test whether we could use it to estimate teacher impact in a way that could be a game changer for our understanding of effective teaching. We consulted teachers and school leaders, and conducted rigorous statistical tests to see if our approach was feasible, acceptable, and meaningful. We were delighted to find that it was. Our findings open up new possibilities for research and practice. Our ambition is to identify and share practical improvements to continuous professional development that can benefit all teachers and their pupils. Read more about our project, PiloTED, and how data might be used to enhance teacher development here: https://buff.ly/4bKSUHx Our Senior Research Associate Dr Raj Chande also shares his take on the findings here: https://buff.ly/4bIxz1j

  • ICYMI: New Teacher Recruitment Advert🎥 Have you seen our latest teacher recruitment advert? It's an invitation, from teachers, to join their amazing profession. The film was made with teachers who know the joys and complexities of school life. They helped us write the script and draft the messaging. They wanted us to share a dash of reality on school life. It's the hardest job you'll ever do. It's also the greatest. As Theodore Roosevelt said: "No kind of life is worth leading if it is always an easy life." So please share this film with your friends, family and anyone that you know who is thinking about becoming a teacher. Applications for this year's cohort close next week, so apply by 19 July to join us in September.

  • NEW: Thousands of teachers will have access to exceptional training and development close to where they live. We are expanding our delivery locations across England to make our programmes easier to get to. Two trusts will become Associate Colleges of the NIoT – the Laurus Trust in south Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire East, and LEO Academy Trust in Sutton and Surrey. As well as playing a key role in the delivery of our programmes, these Associate Colleges also contribute to their design, drawing on local expertise and knowledge. This ensures that programmes reflect their local contexts and the needs of the communities they serve. This partnership approach will enable us to extend our reach across the country, delivering targeted professional development where the need is greatest. There will also be new delivery locations in Nottinghamshire, Bradford, Birmingham and Liverpool. The expansion has been made possible by new partnerships with Great Schools Trust, the designation of a new Star Teaching School Hub in Birmingham and new relationships with The Two Counties Trust, which has nine secondary academies across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
