    ⚓ Join us in welcoming our newest shipmate, Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Mass. ⚓ Cmdr. Anthony Culwell handed over command of NIWC Facility Pacific Guam to Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Maas on July 12. During the US Navy change of charge ceremony, Capt. Patrick McKenna, NIWC Pacific commander, and Michael McMillan, NIWC Pacific executive director, praised Cmdr. Culwell's leadership in managing a team of over 1,200 and delivering crucial warfighting systems worth over $50 million. Lt. Cmdr. Maas, who brings experience from the USS District of Columbia (SSBN 826), expressed his motivation to lead the team in their critical mission. "I am truly humbled to become the 25th officer in charge of NIWC Facility Pacific Guam," said Mass.     NAVWAR's second annual #Buildathon was a smashing success! From June 24 to 27, people from across the command and even Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), U.S. Navy Reserve and U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. 10th Fleet gathered at NAVWAR HQ to tackle mission challenges with Microsoft Power Platform solutions together. With robust trainings on AI capabilities and process automation, the Buildathon was a collaborative opportunity for learning and digital transformation. “The Buildathon 2.0 is a prime example of how the Department of the Navy’s new ‘structured challenges’ approach is fostering innovation and optimization across our enterprise,” said Ryan Lasiter, director of digital data and innovation at NAVWAR. “By bringing together diverse teams to tackle specific problems, we are not only accelerating the adoption of new capabilities but also ensuring that our solutions are robust and effective."     We are excited to share that our #NIWCAtlantic Commanding Officer Capt. Nicole Nigro recently sat down to discuss her naval career with interns from The U.S. Naval Academy. Providing #guidance and #mentorship is part of any internship opportunity at NIWC Atlantic. During their internship, they performed a study utilizing computer vision for passive satellite pointing verification as well as learning about NIWC’s role in the Department of Defense through tours of the many labs and facilities NIWC has. #Futureleaders #nextgeneration

    🎉 Join us in celebrating our Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific, Philadelphia team members selected for 2024 AFCEA International Technology Awards. 🎉 Luke Megonigal, an information system security engineer, has earned a 2024 AFCEA Meritorious Rising Star Award for achievement in emerging technology. Luke generates technical papers and develops software for machine learning (ML)/natural language processing (NLP) projects, having led his team to place third in a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) competition against top industry competitors. He has been crucial to the NIWC Pacific, Cyber Science & Technology department’s NLP Technology Transition Classifier and is currently supporting multiple Naval commands in developing Controlled Unclassified Information Classification Automation Tool technology for the US Navy community. “I am immensely grateful for this award,” said Luke. “It has been a joy and privilege to work at NIWC Pacific, under outstanding leadership and alongside amazing teams. I want to thank AFCEA for this recognition, and all my colleagues at NIWC Pacific. I hope to continue providing value where I can.” Dr. Kevin O’Malley, a leading figure in creativity and innovation, has earned a 2024 AFCEA Technology Innovation Award by excelling in the development of advanced technologies in data science, ML, and NLP to enhance warfighter capabilities. He played a crucial role in implementing NAVY 311's Kinetic artificial intelligence (AI) and ML tool suite, improving the understanding of warfighter needs and streamlining Microsoft's Flank Speed rollout for the Navy. “It is so tremendously rewarding to serve alongside scientists and engineers that are bringing cutting edge AI technology to the warfighter,” said Kevin. 🎉 Congratulations Luke and Kevin and thank you for your contributions to fleet capability and readiness. 🎉 #OneNAVWAR #NAVWAR #NIWCPacific #Philly #TechTuesday
