NetZeroCitiesEU partner ICLEI has analysed the first ten #MissionCities to receive the EU Mission Label, summarising key lessons in two insightful factsheets. 📄Bold Commitments by 2030 Cities have set ambitious climate goals, leveraging their existing efforts and international connections to fast-track progress despite challenges such as fragmented governance and funding issues. 📄A Diverse Ecosystem of Supporters A total of 349 diverse entities, including businesses and civil society organisations, have endorsed these cities' climate commitments. 📣Mission City Vitoria-Gasteiz is looking for urban planning experts! Join Vitoria-Gasteiz's mission to become climate-neutral by 2030! Through the NetZeroCitiesEU City Expert Support Facility, we are looking for Spanish-speaking experts to help align the General Urban Spatial Plan of the city with the EU Cities Mission goals. The selected organisation or individuals are expected to: ✅Source and facilitate in-depth contribution of experts in the fields of urban planning in a one-day kick off event (September 2024). ✅Participate in detailed urban planning regulatory innovation work (Oct-Dec 2024). ✅Provide communication and graphic design support (Jan 2025). 📅 Proposals are accepted until 10 September 2024. 👏 Exciting news from one of the #MissionCities & #PilotCities: Comune di Bologna in Italy! ☀️The Caab Spa - Centro Agroalimentare di Bologna has launched one of the largest photovoltaic systems on buildings in Italy, leading the way in local renewable energy production. This remarkable initiative generates an impressive 6 million KWh of clean energy, which is used to power local communities, buildings, and electric vehicles—significantly contributing to Bologna's sustainability goals. And that's not all! Their next goal is to expand to 11,000 square meters of photovoltaic systems, aiming for a production of 10.4 million kWh, further empowering local families and businesses with renewable energy. 🚀 Initiatives like these demonstrate the power of local action in driving climate goals. 👏 Great news from one of the #MissionCities & #PilotCities Ayuntamiento de Vitoria-Gasteiz who have gained industrial actors to join their journey towards decarbonisation! The city of Vitoria-Gasteiz has secured the signatures of 37 stakeholders across various sectors agreeing to support and promote the city’s path to climate neutrality by 2030 🤝 Large industrial companies such as: - Mercedes Benz has committed to 2030 as their decarbonisation target for its plant based in the city. - Michelin plans to decarbonise a part of its factory by 2025. - PepsiCo and the Eroski supermarket chain have declared their intention to be decarbonised by 2030 as well as the Alava Technology Park, which is home to more than 150 companies in the technology sector. 🚀 A diverse range of stakeholders in cities' climate strategies is key for effective and comprehensive climate action, acting as a driving force towards climate goals.
