The New Castle County Government is a Executive-Council form of municipal government. The county is headed by a County Executive, who is elected to a maximum of two, consecutive four-year terms. The Chief Administrative Officer, who is the County's second-in-command, is appointed by the County Executive and serves at his or her pleasure. The county's legislative body is a thirteen-member County Council, consisting of twelve members elected by district and one Council President elected at large. New Castle County, Delaware is located on the eastern seaboard of the United States, is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay, as well as by the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Watch this documentary. It is truly Delaware history. It is an extraordinary American history, told by people who lived it. There was a time when the Delaware courts were the only court system in the United States to say separate education means unequal education. A Delaware court decision, courageously decided by the father of current Delaware Supreme Court Chief Justice CJ Seitz, led directly to Brown v Board of Education. We in New Castle County (DE) Government recently partnered to preserve the Hockessin Colored School #107c, one of the schools at the center of this dispute - thanks to the strong partnership of the federal and state governments and so many local leaders at the Friends of Hockessin Colored School. But we wanted the students of the school to tell their stories, preserve this precious history. So they did. Please watch it.
