The Regional Transit Authority gets people moving around New Orleans. Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools, and fun-seekers to entertainment, shopping areas, and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as to large numbers of tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. In fact, many visitors (and locals) ride the RTA’s iconic streetcars simply for the fun of it. In this way, the RTA is a destination in itself. Our streetcars and buses are both a symbol of the city and an essential part of it. For career information and to see what positions are available, visit www.governmentjobs.com/careers/norta.

The City of New Orleans has finalized a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA), ensuring the Opportunity Pass pilot program can move forward. The Regional Transit Authority partnered with RIDE New Orleans (RIDE), New Orleans Public Library (NOPL), and the New Orleans Children and Youth Planning Board (NOLACYPB) to work together in developing the next steps of the Opportunity Pass zero-fares pilot program, which will officially launch Sept. 3, 2024. For months, these four organizations and agencies have worked tirelessly to collaborate on the creation of this life-changing program from the ground up. The one-year zero-fares pilot program, Opportunity Pass, will provide Orleans Parish youth ages 16 to 24 access to free rides on RTA buses, streetcars, and ferries. This is an essential step in removing one of the many barriers youth face every day. “The Opportunity Pass is the result of months of hard work, collaboration, and cooperation with several different agencies and City leaders. We are proud and excited to serve as a partner on this project. This pilot is rooted in RTA’s commitment to equity while providing a world-class rider experience. This is also personal to me, as I learned up close the value of affordable transit for young adults during my time rebuilding the New Orleans public schools after Hurricane Katrina. These riders represent our next generation, and so often are our most vulnerable. We must embrace every opportunity to help get them to their jobs, their schools, and their communities. As we modernize our fleet and improve service reliability, we are paving the way for how New Orleans rolls into the future,” said Lona Edwards Hankins, Chief Executive Officer, New Orleans Regional Transit Authority. Also thanks to the @cityofnola, @nolacitycouncil, and especially @helenamoreno. Learn more at norta.com

Exciting updates on the Thomas Jefferson ferry boat! The final touches are being completed as part of the vessel's routine five-year drydock. This maintenance cycle includes an upgrade to ensure the propellers, tail shafts, pumps, piping, hydraulic, mechanical, and steering systems are all in top shape. This year, the TJ also received a fresh sandblasting and new paint job. The next step is sea trials conducted by the USCG, signaling that the vessel could be back in service soon! Thank you for your patience, and stay tuned for more updates coming in the very near future.

60 years ago this month, the Civil Rights Act was signed, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable society. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects people from discrimination based on race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. The Federal Transit Administration works to ensure nondiscriminatory transportation in support of our mission to enhance the social and economic quality of life for all Americans. At the New Orleans RTA, we honor this historic achievement and remain committed to upholding the principles of equality and fairness in all that we do. Together, we ride towards a brighter, more inclusive future.🌟 #CivilRightsAct #NORTA #Equality #Inclusion #Progress #NewOrleans
