Conserving, improving and protecting New York State's natural resources and environment

Über uns

The dedicated professionals of New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) are passionate about the outdoors and protecting the environment. Agency staff protect our air and water, fish and wildlife, and more than 5 million treasured acres of public land for outdoor recreation. Educating the public, especially youth, about caring for the environment and natural resources is another critical part of DEC’s mission. Whether it’s setting game seasons, enforcing clean air laws, fighting wildland fires, or issuing environmental permits to factories, if it has to do with protecting the environment, DEC is there. DEC's headquarters is in Albany, the state capitol. Staff in nine regional offices serve communities throughout the state. Find a regional office near you at https://www.dec.ny.gov/about/50230.html See www.dec.ny.gov for more information about what we do and where the DEC office closest to you is located. • Ocean health is critical to New York’s local ecology, economy, and culture, but how do we measure ocean health? Is it the cleanliness of the water? The abundance of marine life? Or maybe it’s how sustainably we can use its resources. These factors and more are used to evaluate ocean health! The New York Bight Ocean Indicators System was initiated by DEC’s Division of Marine Resources and Stony Brook University in 2017 to monitor trends in physical and chemical, biological, and human population indicators of the ocean. Join DEC and Stony Brook University School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences staff for an Ocean Health Overview at the New York Aquarium. Staff will talk about the indicators system and current ocean health trends in the NY Bight and be available for questions and discussion after the talk. 🗓 Wednesday, August 7, 5:30 – 7:30 PM 🗺 Education Hall, New York Aquarium, 602 Surf Ave., (on boardwalk) Brooklyn, NY 11224 🚙 Parking is free but limited (must mention that you are there for the DEC event). 🐠 Want to make a day of it and visit the aquarium before the talk? Get tickets at https://lnkd.in/ghUuRpsY. (You do not need tickets to attend the event.)
