John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital is the regional center for comprehensive and state-of-the-art pediatric trauma, surgical and medical care, including neonatal, perinatal and obstetric services. Oishei Children’s Hospital is the only access point for pediatric critical care as the region’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. It also serves as the only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Western New York. The hospital enjoys a worldwide reputation for innovation and research while providing highly specialized care and treatment through a broad array of co-located outpatient services.

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce Benny L. Joyner, Jr., MD, as the newly-appointed Pediatrician-in-Chief at Oishei Children’s Hospital and Chief of Service for Pediatrics at Kaleida Health! A prominent pediatric intensivist, Dr. Joyner is renowned for his pioneering work in simulation training and innovative medical education. He completed his residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Pediatric Residency Program at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, New York, where he also served as chief resident in pediatrics. Over his long and storied career, he has proven himself as an innovator and has traveled across the country to lead seminars on simulation in health care, collaboration and teamwork. Dr. Joyner’s extensive experience in building collaborative relationships across disciplines and across the care continuum will greatly enhance the health and wellness of the children we serve. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Joyner to our WNY pediatric community and onto our leadership team when he officially begins this role in January of 2025!
