This life-changing program offers veterans a rent- and utilities-free apartment for one year, plus vital access to employment and financial counseling. With locations in Frederick, MD, Columbia, MD, Atlanta, GA, and San Antonio, TX, we're dedicated to empowering our nation's heroes to achieve stability and build a lasting foundation for success in their civilian lives. When Craig Payne, a retired Army staff sergeant faced basement flooding due to a failed drainage system, he wasn't sure where to turn. With repair costs soaring into the thousands, it felt like an impossible challenge. Thanks to Operation Homefront's Critical Financial Assistance program, Craig and his family were able to repair their home's drainage system, putting an end to the flooding and the stress that came with it. This $7,000 repair means more than just a dry basement; it’s the security that we strive to bring to military families like the Payne's, so that they can thrive, not just struggle to get by. Back-to-school season is challenging, especially for military families, who often face additional financial strain. According to the Deloitte 2024 Back-to-School survey, parents are expected to spend around $586 per child on back-to-school shopping. The added costs of frequent moves and deployment stress can make this season even more difficult for military families. That’s why we were proud to support 160 military families in Springfield, VA, by providing much-needed school supplies. With this donation, Paul Vincent can travel worry-free, ensuring his family's well-being and opening doors to better opportunities. Army veteran Joy Dubberstein, a single mom, faced tough times after losing her job in early 2023. With rising costs and her HVAC system failing during a hot summer, Joy worried about how to keep her children safe and cool. Thanks to Operation Homefront's Critical Financial Assistance program, funded by generous donors, Joy was able to replace her HVAC system and get help with food and utility costs. This year, our Back-to-School Brigade® in Las Vegas was more than just a distribution event—it was a full-blown expo and resource fair! Each child left with a backpack, a school supply kit, and a scoop of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. The day was filled with fun, thanks to special appearances by Elmo and the Las Vegas Aviators' Mascots, Spruce & Aviator, along with engaging activities from our community partners. Beyond the supplies, this event offered a chance for military families to make new friends in both civilian and military local communities, helping to foster a sense of belonging and relieve some of the anxiety children may have when changing schools. We can deliver this program to military families across the country, thanks in part to our generous donors and partners, like Southern New Hampshire University, Dollar Tree Stores, CSX, Kohl's, Love's Travel Stops, BODYARMOR Sports Nutrition, Northrop Grumman, and Renewal by Andersen.
