PECO volunteers participated in the Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia annual Backpack-A-Thon, where they helped pack and distribute over 30,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children facing homelessness and low-income situations throughout Philadelphia.

Wow, what a great week 2 for our new Helpers!!! This week saw the Helpers obtain their certifications in CPR and AED while learning about Blood Borne Pathegeons! Manhole and Ladder rescue challenging by they were all triumphant! Beyond Literacy has the CAST and AMO test prep moving along well, we have 7 Helpers with a RECOMMENDED score already and 15 to go! To end the week the Helpers loved the Financial Goal Setting module facilitated by Dr. Chandra Williams from Chase bank. We were also fortunate enough to have a visit from some good friends from The JPI Group! They heard about the PECO Helper program and wanted to visit to get an update close and personal look into the program. Thanks for visiting us Mustafa, Keely Hughes and Janean Gardner, my team and I appreciated you words of wisdom to the Helpers!

What an AMAZING WEEK for PECO Workforce Development!!! We successfully onboarded 22 new candidates into our Helper Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This 3rd cohort is our largest and has the most female participants at 4! This week the new Helpers learned 6 knots thanks to Supervisors Dave Kent and Arnold “Chip” Duckrey and Local 614 partners Jim McGill and Josh Beck. The new Helpers all obtained their Flagger Certification and will obtain their AED and CPR Certifications next week during this 3 week orientation. Thank you Anissa Jones, Suzanna Gashinsky, Eric Nash and Nancy Mifflin for your support this week. Exelon STEM Academy students studied PECO territory neighborhoods to find ways to strengthen the electric grid against severe weather and climate change. They analyzed factors like nearby water bodies and vegetation to propose solutions for improving power reliability.

PECO celebrated 20 years of the Green Region Open Space Program, awarding $160,000 in grants to 22 green space projects across six counties! The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy in Philadelphia is in full swing! STEM students began their week with a field trip to PECO’s line and gas schools, where they participated in interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities.
