During Disability Pride Month, we celebrate Karla Gilbride, Public Justice alum and the first blind lawyer to argue before the Supreme Court. Karla is a trailblazing civil rights attorney whose groundbreaking work and commitment to justice have set a precedent for equality and inclusion. As the first individual with a known disability to serve as General Counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Karla’s achievements and advocacy continue to inspire us. #DisabilityPrideMonth #KarlaGilbride #PublicJustice #EqualOpportunity #CivilRights #Inclusion

Meet our Trial Lawyer of the Year finalist case, John Doe I v. Exxon Mobil Corp After 22 years of hard-fought litigation, a small band of litigators achieved justice against Exxon Mobil for heinous human rights abuses committed by its contractors in Indonesia. The landmark case exposed atrocities like torture and murder, holding Exxon accountable despite complex legal challenges. Led by Agnieszka Fryszman, the team pioneered using foreign tort law in U.S. courts, securing a pivotal victory that sets a precedent for holding multinational corporations accountable worldwide. This settlement marks a life-changing moment for our families and ensures their voices are heard.

Public Justice is proud to recognize this year’s Champions of Justice: The Tennessee Three On March 27th 2023, a tragic shooting at Nashville’s Covenant School claimed the lives of three children and three adults. In the days following this Tennessee tragedy, calls for stricter gun control laws intensified, with Democratic representatives Justin Jones, Justin Pearson, and Gloria Johnson – now known as the "Tennessee Three" - leading protests in the statehouse demanding action from elected leaders. In response, the legislature’s Republican majority expelled Reps. Pearson and Jones, while Rep. Johnson was spared expulsion by a single vote. Following their return to the legislature, all three have continued their advocacy, refusing to be silenced and speaking out on behalf of constituents demanding change. Join us on July 22nd as we honor their tireless defense of democracy with Public Justice’s 2024 Champion of Justice Award.

Meet our Trial Lawyer of the Year finalist case, Adkisson v. Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. Imagine witnessing the aftermath of the largest industrial disaster in U.S. history at TVA's Kingston Fossil Plant in 2008. A massive coal ash spill devastated 300 acres, exposing cleanup workers to toxic ash without protection. After nearly a decade of legal battles, courageous plaintiffs secured a comprehensive settlement in June 2023, bringing accountability and compensation for their suffering. It's a story of resilience against corporate wrongdoing and justice for workers' rights and health.
