A great blog post by my colleague Nicole commenting on the monumental decision in the Google antitrust case! Digital advertising is another world riddled with fraud, and with this decision and hopefully more similar ones to come, there is hope for a course correction.
I'm pleased to share my blog post regarding this month's landmark antitrust ruling against Google. Digital advertising is a billion-dollar industry that lacks transparency, with many opportunities for unfair practices. In his ruling, Judge Amit Mehta wrote: “After having carefully considered and weighed the witness testimony and evidence, the court reaches the following conclusion: Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly.”

The Sixth Circuit now joins four other circuits - the 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 10th - in invalidating agreements that force participants to arbitrate claims against breaching fiduciaries on an individual basis and waive statutory rights to bring claims for plan-wide relief under ERISA.

An interesting 2023 study found substantially higher rates of burnout among female physicians. Unsurprisingly, the study also found that "despite women surgeons reporting more work hours than their men colleagues, they reported lower incomes…Despite similar work and levels of academic productivity, women are less likely to be promoted and compose a small minority of leaders in medicine.” Working more hours for less pay and even less recognition, is it any wonder that women feel burnt out in an environment almost tailor-made to burn them out? https://lnkd.in/gMtFVGZ8.

My summer internship experience at Sanford Heisler Sharp has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. In the past two months, I've gained invaluable wisdom and deepened my connection with my personal values. I'm thrilled about the direction I'm heading in and feeling more excited about the possibilities than ever! I am grateful to have worked with such inspiring professionals, especially David Tracey, who guided my research this summer. With his direction, I learned about the public interest sector of the law and was given access to a whole new world of legal topics. I explored algorithmic bias in the different uses of AI and investigated the function and importance of private rights of action, among many other relevant legal issues, with plenty of opportunities to gather my own information and insights to write my own interpretation. My fellow intern team and I got to co-author a blog post about the federal and state-level WARN Act as well! I also had the benefit of visiting the SHS DC team's headquarters during my final week as an intern, where I had the privilege of spending time with the wonderful DC office and Kate Mueting, a profound changemaker in the gender and pregnancy discrimination domain who has uplifted and inspired me with her work. She offered me generous advice and was a terrific guidepost for me this pivotal summer. I am incredibly grateful for having the chance to witness my coworkers living with conviction in what matters most and driving the world toward justice for all. It is an experience I won't soon forget. Kindness and intelligence are abundant at Sanford Heisler Sharp, and this summer has set a fairly high standard for all my future career endeavors, yet I am thankful because I now know what a great, safe, and comfortable workplace looks and feels like. I am sincerely humbled by everyone's strength and dedication to justice and their warmth and compassion amid very challenging legal cases while being a guidepost for those who need their support.
