Uniting changemakers in the fight for human rights and climate justice in the clothing industry. Take action ⬇️

Über uns

Today, our clothes are disposable and cheap, while the human and environmental costs required to make them are tremendous. For the millions of mostly 18 to 24-year-old women (who represent 80% of the fashion supply chain), these jobs can be the best first step out of poverty. Yet the industry is rife with low wages, inadequate worker protections, unsafe conditions, and unrest. The current system needs a remake, and we are here to do just that. Our mission is to build a conscious consumer movement. Remake tells stories that bring shoppers, brands, and makers into a movement to shape the fashion industry’s relationship with the millions of people in its supply chain. When we know their stories, we can use our collective voice and shopping dollars to improve and shape the lives of people who make our clothes.

Join Remake, the Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA), and the Garment and Allied Workers Union (GAWU) this Friday, August 30th at 7:00 am PST / 10:00 am EST / 7:30 pm IST to hear from affected workers and union leaders protesting labor violations and unjust terminations at Chelsea Mills in Gurgaon, India. This webinar will address the importance of collective action in addressing workplace injustices, such as gender-based violence and union-busting, and share how you can use your voice to protect garment workers' rights. 💻 https://hubs.li/Q02MNy3x0 The ongoing campaign against Chelsea Mills seeks justice for Urmila and Neelam, two workers who were unjustly terminated for reporting serious violations. Urmila was fired after reporting unpaid wages, and Neelam was dismissed after filing a sexual harassment complaint. This webinar will amplify their voices and expose the broader issues of worker exploitation and abuse at Chelsea Mills. 🌟 Key Discussion Points: The correlation between the denial of FOA and the escalation of GBVH The stories of Urmila and Neelam, and the fight for their reinstatement We urge you to join us in demanding that Chelsea Mills engage in good faith negotiations with GAWU to address workers' concerns; reinstate Urmila and Neelam and be held accountable for its unjust labor practices. Calling on the brands that source from Chelsea to hold the supplier accountable for unfair labor practices.

Sustainable fashion is a gateway to activism. It shifts your perspective from being a passive consumer to an active participant in a global movement. Each mindful action connects you to a larger movement of resistance against systemic injustices and paves the way for a future where fashion is not just about looking good, but about doing good. Your choices become a form of protest, a statement that you refuse to be complicit in the harm caused by the fashion industry. It’s just the first step to dismantling the systems that oppress us and exploit the planet. 🌟 At Remake we empower the next generation of activists, scale + catalyze transformative campaigns and build radical collaboration. "For one, it can be difficult to take shoes apart and process them because they often contain a mix of materials, such as fabric, rubber, leather and metal, that are typically held together with adhesives and stitching, said Katrina Caspelich, Chief Marketing Officer for Remake, a nonprofit that advocates for sustainable and ethical fashion. Shoes that are collected for recycling also don’t always end up being recycled. One Reuters investigation published last year found that many shoes donated to a program spearheaded by the Singapore government and U.S. petrochemicals giant Dow ended up exported." 🌟Click to read the full article via The Washington Post: https://lnkd.in/gWxunPkA

Designer, Educator, Author: Fashion and Sustainability, Founding Board Member: Union of Concerned Researchers in Fashion, Board Member: Re/make.

ReMake: The Fight for Wages in Fast Fashion. I am so happy to be on ReMake's board and to be working with such a visionary and talented team. See this article for details of ReMake's remarkable work over the years, centering the perspectives and needs of garment makers in the conversation about sustainable fashion. Of course workers know better than anyone what conditions are needed and what a 'living wage' is. For any brand who missed supporting CA SB62, you do have another chance to support the movement as it goes nationwide through Senator Gillibrand’s FABRIC Act. (https://lnkd.in/gpaMuY6Z) Many thanks to ReMake's founder, Ayesha Berenblat for her vision, leadership and continuous stamina in the work.

What clothes are you wearing right now? Do you know who made them? Or how, where, or under what conditions? If the answer is no, you’re not alone. Fashion’s supply chain is a wide-reaching, complex, fragmented network of processes, countries, and individuals that is so convoluted and opaque that many brands can’t answer these questions either, even about their own products. 🌟 Click to read the full Remake Times Story - "How Fashion Works: A Dive Into Supply Chains & The State of Fashion" https://lnkd.in/gUQsUmuD
