As we approach #OvarianCancerAwareness Day on Sept. 5, it’s vital to shine a spotlight on this often-overlooked disease. Ovarian cancer, a malignancy originating in the ovaries, is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. 𝐀 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝. The DynaCAD imaging system will be used for breast and prostate MRI's. The biggest benefit is that it provides the radiologist with the technology needed for reading and interpreting breast and prostate MRI’s. Playing an important role in the diagnosis of cancer, MRI images can also be used for templating and guidance for biopsies. Mammogram Coordinator Lynn Wenzel comments: “Offering breast MRI’s locally is fantastic news for our patients. It enhances accessibility to crucial diagnostic tools and ensures timely screenings for those at high risk of breast cancer." “The DynaCAD imaging system can integrate prostate MRI into prostate biopsy, explains Elizabeth Lilley, physician assistant who sees urology patients at Riverwood’s specialty clinic. “This is called a fusion biopsy and allows us to accurately target any suspicious lesion that was noted on MRI.” Lilley adds, “The prostate MRI in combination with DynaCAD technology will allow us to keep our patients close to home for prostate cancer screening, diagnosis, and formulation of treatment plan." When she is not caring for patients, Dr. Susan Moen, orthopaedic hand and wrist surgeon at Riverwood, enjoys rowing workouts with the Daisy Crew of the Brainerd Lakes Rowing Club. Moen shares her enthusiasm for the sport, “I love the rowing club! Rowing is an amazing workout. It is a full body exercise and uses all the major muscle groups. It also requires focus and technique to coordinate the stroke and keep the boat balanced. I love the combined physical and mental challenge that it presents."
