Introducing our latest Issue Brief: Strengthening the Caregiver Workforce with Refugee Partnerships. As our nation faces a significant demographic shift, with the number of adults aged 65+ expected to nearly double by 2060, the demand for direct care workers is more urgent than ever. Over the next decade, we will need an additional 1.2 million direct care jobs in the United States. But it's not just about numbers. The future of caregiving will require a workforce that is as diverse as the population it serves. To address these challenges, CEAL partnered with UNITED WOMEN OF EAST AFRICA (UWEAST) to create caregiver training programs tailored to the needs of refugee communities. Under the leadership of Steve Hornberger and Sahra Abdi, this collaboration has successfully trained over 250 caregivers in four languages, ensuring culturally appropriate care and providing employment opportunities. In our latest issue brief, lead author Emily Allison, MSW, MPH, explores the impact of these strategic partnerships and emphasizes the critical role of cultural competency in meeting the long-term care needs of our diverse aging population.

Research shows that older adults participating in 15-minute social calls per week can experience improved mental well-being, a sense of belonging, and an enriched social life.
