If the past 4 ½ years taught us anything, it’s that nobody can accurately predict the freight market or perfectly time the cycles. That said, the general consensus is that we’re likely at or near the bottom of the market since it went deflationary back in Q2 of ‘22. As I reflect over the last 2 ½ years in what’s been an abnormally lengthy freight recession for brokers and carriers alike, here are my key takeaways. 1. Responsible Growth > Growth at all cost. 2. Find your niche(s) and stick to them. 3. Never waste a down market to build the roof while the sun is out. 4. Double down on your culture, values, and mission. There’s simply too much to unpack with each of these topics all at once so in the coming weeks, I’ll go into detail on what each meant for myself and the leadership team at SiLo.
